We all have our favourite pros!

Mine is and always will be Seve, most now love the Tiger!!

I would like to put forward a name to follow at the other end of the spectrum.

He is a Southport Lad,my hometown,a good friend of mine although I have not seen him for years due to his globe trotting and me starting a family.

He was not a stand out amatuer,he played county golf but nothing nationally like walker Cup.

He has steadily built his career through HARD WORK
He went on to the europro tour, won the order of merit!
He went on to the challenge tour, won the order of merit!
Qualifyed for the European Tour twice, lost his card twice.
In 2008 he kept his card for the 1st time for 2009.

I genuinley think this lad is capable of winning a tour event and being a star.
The name is Lee Slattery

and if he does remember where you heard the name first, unless you already have because he played in the last group with Ernie Els last year when Ernie dumped 2 in the water at his home course IN South Africa to throw the title away.

Played for money a LONGGGGGGGG TIME AGO when he was a kid.

That would be monumentally stupid now!!!

Keep waiting for the ask to be his caddy!!

Really pisses me off when the locals say things like

Lees lost his card again
or
Lees missed 5 cuts on the bounce

These people have no idea of what standard these guys are playing at & how hard it is.
I always reply with "well hes banked over £600.000 in prize money as a pro, not bad for a failure"

effin fools

Yes but out of that £600,000 how much has he had to fork out of expenses, hotels, flights caddies cuts etc etc???

Not an easy game at the top!

Tell me about it. After 3 years I still can't qualify for Q School. I've one more tourmanant to win, then I qualify. I have won almost $250k in the process though, and got sponsorship from Ping and Footjoy. My putting is what's letting me down, almost, preferring to lay up short and chip it on close to the hole for a single.

Alchemy, keep us posted on his war abouts, I for 1 will keep an eye out for him. Its always good to follow guys you have a sort of conection too, even if it is someone you know througha forum you have never met who knows him. :D

I like to keep an eye out for Paul Waring, being an English lad and his home course is Bromborough. Brom G.C is 5 mins up the road from me and meant to be one of the best courses for miles.... On that subject... see Arrange a game.

Yeah he has his costs of course, thats 600.000 in prize money but he is also paid by Galvin Green for wearing there gear and sponsored by numerous other companys that cover most of those costs,he has company emblems all over his sleeves.

Trust me he is not short of a few quid!!

I wasnt suggesting he was as I'm friendly with Alastair Forsyth who has two victories on tour now. Its just that I know how much of an outlay that these guys lose every time they win prize money. From management cuts to caddies fees/percentages, etc it fairly adds up.

Naw I would hate to be playing top courses in Dubai, Malaysia, Australia etc at this time of the year. Much prefer freezing my nuts off at the range hitting shitty balls and not having a decent putting surface till April at the earlist!!!!!

A guy called David Griffiths plays out of my club. Lost his tour card last year, after one year on the tour. Great golfer, but you need so much more than that.

Now he is a nice bloke Craw, he spoke to me for about 5 minutes before his final round at the Belfry in last years British masters. It was mainly me just asking questions but he was quite willing to answer them having bumped into me talking to someone behind him whilst walking to the range from the clubhouse! Clumsy but a nice bloke, he was quite apologetic :D

Have come accross Lee Slatery before, being mentioned by numerous comentators. Probably seen some coverage, but nothing stands out in my memory other than coming across the name before.

Can't really comment much further than that.
Other than, how long have some pros like for instance, Jiminez been playing before it all came together, there are loads of other examples of Journeyman Pro's who suddenly come good when everyone thinks they wont.

Oh & as I get older I'd love to be playing in the warm. Heck the opertunity to caddy in the warm right now, bad knee or not would be a welcome prospect. So if there are any Pro's out there who want a caddy right now I'm up for it.... lol

The pro from our club played at the Srixon Play offs that he won last year. He said he could have played a 4ball texas scramble on his own and still not matched Chris' score!! The score was incredible because it was blowing a 50mph gale too!!
