One thing you hate at your local club

The most annoying thing is the lack of stableford competitions, or really any competitions for that matter.

For the months of January and February there is two competitions both medals. For march, two competitions. In the summer they pick up in numbers somewhat but not much and in the whole calendar year there is about 4-5 stableford competitions. If you are trying to reduce your handicap and for whatever reason can't play in the one medal competition a month you have to wait till next month to even have a chance, so frustrating!

Two things I don't like about my club

1) sewage plant on the walk from the 4th to 5th and again 15th to 16th
2) public footpath through 9 and 10, goes through the fairway in front of the green on 9 and fairway in front of teebok on 10, walkers have right of way.

Bunkers, lack of depth and loads of stones despite them doing work to remove them a few years back. Never raked or maintained.

State of the greens. Got a moss outbreak and couldn't clear it. Got STRI (designers) at great cost last summer to give a detailed recovery plan. Played yesterday and juut as bad. Starting to affect the putts and coming close to making me think about pastures new.

Lack of definition on some holes. I know its a young course and it will come but they need to look at investing in some more mature trees to divide a couple of the fairways and give it the character it needs

The rough - I know its suppose to be penal but in places it is ankle deep even at this time of the year and very close to fairway edges and greens so you don't have to be too wild to lose a ball. That doesn't seem right when it is suppose to be recreational. My partner missed the 12th green by about 5 yards and lost a ball. The other hit a great drive on the same hole, ran out ouf fairway (if you've played the course you'll know what I mean) and lost it too. I sliced it right towards the 11th tee and was the only one to score.

Our insular committee who don't communicate with members, ignore the club constitution to make up rules as they go along, and generally make a complete hash of just about everything they touch. And before I get slated with all the "Well, if you think you can do better....." jibes, I am one of four members who have decided to stand this year and shake things up a bit.

Other than that the only real issue I have at our place, as I have raised elsewhere, is a CSS which makes it ludicrously hard to even maintain an accurate handicap, never mind get cut if you play consistently well. Our CSS is often as low as three under the course par, and as such it is not unusual to have to play effectively one under my handicap just to buffer. I know others will argue that handicaps are measured against standard scratch and not the course par, but to have to shoot four under my handicap against par just to get cut 0.2 is just not right.

That sounds like you are at a proprietorship club rather than a members club - what reason are you given for the low number of events? There must be a good number of members struggling to even maintain an active handicap.

Need an extra member of bar staff on Saturday teatimes. Its not unusual for 1/2 doz members waiting to be served. Ideally, for there to be an overlap of staff between 4 & 6.

The snobby juniors with lowish handicaps, who think it's funny to laugh at the people who can't play as well as them.
Still, I do like my club and the wildlife in it sure makes it a lotta fun!

The small pro shop ( which is full when only a couple people are in there)

The Saturday morning groups, which during winter months means no tee slots available for others to play 18 holes.

The slow play and how busy the course is.... no matter what day or time it is!

To date, it's always been the older players that will never let us play through.

The bunkers are my only other gripe. They barely have any sand in them and they are full of stones.

Value for money it's great as I only pay £440 a year (being 25) and the greens are fantastic all year round.

wow thats abit exsessive, were do you play? no matter how easy the course is you still gotta get the little thing in the hole

Similar issue to billysboots, our CSS is 67 against a par of 69, can go as low as 66, big pain as you have to shoot 3 under your h/cap to get a cut, great wee club with smashing guys, benefit is when you play away is easier to play to handicap.

1) Uneven tees with grass longer than the fairways.
2) Bunkers, some with sand some like Weston Super Mare mud flats.
3) Feature planting now obliterated with brambles.
4) No 100yd markers.

Only pulling your leg mate. I have 5 dogs, and must admit owners that don't keep them under control. Plus leaving their muck everywhere. Really gets up my nose. Only last week on the field where I practice. Went to pick up the balls, one, was sat on top of a pile of it! It's still sat on it as far as I'm aware.

your ball had a good lie then for your next shot ,,,i do have two dogs as well mate

ahh thanks for reminding me, in my rose tinted glasses view of my club I'd forgotten that a lot of bunkers are very thin before hitting dirt, and on a steep 10 ft high face thats not easy

Probably the only thing that really irritates me about my club is their stupid 'single player has no standing' rule. Why? What is the point? Luckily most of the members are reasonable enough to ignore it and will let people through if they are clearly faster, but there is a group of about 30 or so old farts who seem to think it is their purpose in life to ensure that this rule is rigidly stuck to at all times.
On more than one occasion I have been on the end of ''we would let you through but you're on your own so we don't have to'' when stuck behind a fourball who have lost multiple holes on the groups in front.
These are the same knobs who unofficially make it impossible for anyone else to play Tuesdays or Thursdays unless you get out proper early as they all rock up together and clog up the tee and then the whole course for pretty much the whole day. We don't have tee bookings so unless you know all the little cliques and their favourite times to show up it can be a real lottery as to whether you can play.
