One thing you hate at your local club

Two things annoy me at my club. One is the idiot ramblers/dog walkers who do not stick to the public footpaths and decide to create their own paths. Number two is our bunkers, the sand just gets to flat and compressed and it can be like hitting a ball off concrete sometimes

Sad to see so many people having gripes with their club. I feel really lucky with my club. Course in great condition, very rarely use temporary greens and when we do they are off the front of the green on an area that is maintained all year, so even the temporary greens are fine to play on. Maybe the odd little gripe but nothing major. Would be nice if the diving range was floodlit as the next one is half an hour away.

follow the dog walkers home and go do it on there lawn and see how they like it, must add alot more dog walkers do seem to pick it up nowadays

That sounds like you are at a proprietorship club rather than a members club - what reason are you given for the low number of events? There must be a good number of members struggling to even maintain an active handicap.

I'm not going to name the club but it's members run and proud of it. I can't believe more people dont kick up a fuss about it. I've counted it and from November to this march there is a total of 5 competition, four medals and one stableford. I hope I'm not complaining for the sake of complaining but I have no issues with the course or clubhouse just the level of competitions for those wanting to play regular competitive golf, I can never get myself up for playing for a side bet, I always want to better my single figure handicap.

Some of the paths that lead to the next hole are dangerous and in need or relaying before someone breaks an ankle or worse also I know it is winter but putting the tees in places where the ball is 4 inches above you does my head in.

I usually find scoop it up with a shovel then flick it at there front door is the best option. It just makes me feel better.

Side note- my mates a builder and every morning he goes out to his transit pick-up there's a doggy bag been thrown in the back. How sad are some folk, I'd sit up all night till I caught the dirty person.

It seems that a familiar gripe is coming out here time and again, the accessibility to get a game. Fortunately we don't have booked times except for comps and they are clearly published in advance so you ca plan around it. Turn up and go out. I know we've pretty high fees compared to many on here but the convenience, especially if you want a game straight from work in the summer, or are off on the Christmas break must be worth several hundred pounds a year. Its definitely one of the clubs best points

i bet he would love to catch em ,but he could get locked up if e did

Probably the only thing that really irritates me about my club is their stupid 'single player has no standing' rule. Why? What is the point? Luckily most of the members are reasonable enough to ignore it and will let people through if they are clearly faster, but there is a group of about 30 or so old farts who seem to think it is their purpose in life to ensure that this rule is rigidly stuck to at all times.
On more than one occasion I have been on the end of ''we would let you through but you're on your own so we don't have to'' when stuck behind a fourball who have lost multiple holes on the groups in front.
These are the same knobs who unofficially make it impossible for anyone else to play Tuesdays or Thursdays unless you get out proper early as they all rock up together and clog up the tee and then the whole course for pretty much the whole day. We don't have tee bookings so unless you know all the little cliques and their favourite times to show up it can be a real lottery as to whether you can play.

i had this problem when i first played at my local club if i don't get there for 7.30am you have 2 start the back 9 first to miss the Biddy's out then i play the first 9 if not busy

Only thing wrong with my course is that it seems to be too close to the artic circle, on average it's 5C colder than Perth despite being only 17 miles away.
I look out the window and there is no frost think yeah gameon, check the website only to see course closed or on winters due to snow or frost.

I had the same problem again today, left it until later on to avoid the old gits and got to the 1st with no-one else in sight, brilliant I thought. Saw there was a group of 4 up ahead walking off the green (par 5) as I wandered up to my tee shot, they were STILL teeing off by the time I had finished the hole and walked round to the 2nd tee. Did they do the decent/sensible thing and let me through (no-one at all on the next hole), not a chance. They did their very best to pretend I wasn't even there and continued to do so for the next 5 holes. Eventually a 3-ball caught up with me and I joined them for the last few (only played 10 as it would have been dark long before the offending 4 had finished the course), but I am seriously considering writing a letter of complaint to our general manager. I know nothing will happen, but I would like to see what their justification could possibly be for having such a pointless and outdated rule, especially now that it isn't even official.

Its a shame really, as other than this I really like the club, but they seem to have a vendetta against anyone who dares to go out alone.

Two quotes from the CONGU booklet to bring to the attentionof your committee:
“Every golf club or handicapping authority will, wheneverpossible, run strokeplay competitions as qualifying competitions”
“The adoption of preferred lies, can allow qualifyingcompetitions to be allowed under acceptable playing conditions. Clubs should, whenever practicable, play competitions as qualifying competitions during thepreferred lie period.

Cheers, will bring that to their attention.
