Not at ours, bar manager runs very good bar with 3-4 guest ales a week along with the usual draft lager , cider, IPA and Bellhaven Black

Lots of places sell Guinness & beer, the vast, vast majority of which I wouldn’t go in.

Lots of golf clubs have courses, many of which I wouldn’t pay to visit…

Agree with you - I go to my golf club to play golf, I'd go to a pub for the beers!

I can't help feel your expectations of a golf course in England are a little low. Unless you are playing mini golf, the game is played on grass in the UK.

You'd be surprised. A combination of fixed winter tees off AstroTurf, fairway mats and winter greens could be in play at some courses.

I definitely have more drinks at the clubhouse than at any bar/pub. I go to the golf club to play golf... with cider

My course will mostly be off mats on the tees now. If you're hitting off a tee it hardly matters though? We've never had fairway mats since we're in the south.

My club always has a decent couple of hand pulled ales and a revolving local guest beer - also usually good. The two other clubs within easy striking distance only have an unchanging tap featuring mass produced urine-type lager and John Smiths type stuff on tap. This absolutely was a factor in choosing a club to join as a bar with no nice beers is pretty depressing and is failing spectacularly at its primary job. I wouldn’t spend time in a pub that only served Guinness/Carling/Madri/Stella either.

Back to Knaresborough. Probably drop Oakdale in the Spring. Ripon is still the best winter golf around here.....and I like the more relaxed attitudes there (meaning dirty fear mongering, political hating, obnoxious comments). Knaresborough has a practice ground I want....my goal is to practice more this year. I thought about Harrogate....I could ride a bike on the back road there in 10 min or so....but.... If I lived on the south part of Harrogate I'd give somewhere like Scarcroft a try. But 35min drive is just a bit too far.

Just out of interest.....I assume you meant you loved Oakdale. Have you played Oakdale during the wet 6 months? And....have you been to Ripon? Ripon is two courses in one.......short and deadly on the old 9 holes, and then a nice traditional parkland on the back 9.
