🤦‍♂️

There are multiple examples of Olympians within GB that are professional - doctors , nurses , lawyers , fireman , policeman , military - they get a level of funding to pay for travel , accommodation, clothing

Are they “professional sportsmen” or professional doctors , nurses etc

Not everyone fits inside a “dictionary definition”

There are people with cycling , swimming etc where someone is “paid” by GB cycling or GB swimming and have no other job and are professional sportsmen/women etc

If someone who only plays golf to earn money then he is a professional golfer

I think its perfectly possible to be both (just like many 000's who hold down more than one job) I can be a professional mechanic and a professional bar tender
Athletes (& tour golfers) aren't excluded from taking another job on top of the sport they get money for (some may need to, some may want to)

Interesting that gold medal winners in Athletics got a $50,000 prize from World Athletics (nb: not from the IOC). Lesser sums for silver & bronze. Likewise, boxers got prizes from the IBA. I think some other sport also give prize money.
