Old Wood

As I have only been playing the game a few years I have no experience of hitting/seeing old persimmon woods (I think they are called that).
I would love GM to do an article on them, perhaps getting a pro to play a round with them and compare the feeling etc? want to see if I have missed out on anything.

Any forum members use to play with them or still do?

Used to play with them. Sounded beautiful, looked gorgeous, absolutely impossible to hit well regularly in comparison to the modern drivers!

There's a firm advertising them in the small ads of GM, and no matter how good they look, I know it would be murder going back to one.

God, they were small! A driver was about the same size as a 7 wood, or so it seems. Did feel lovely and sounded great too though.

They were lovely. I had a beautiful Dunlop 3 wood which I hit miles (in comparitive terms). The driver I had was hand made by the old professional at London Scottish and was a work of art. It was so beautiful I felt guitly using it

They do sound beautiful and I wouldnt mind one for the range, just as long as I dont wind the custom fit people up

I have my grandads 1,3,5 in the loft that i have been tempted to take to the range, might look them out if this wind ever dies down!!
