A Cleveland Launcher 13* wood and a new FL 13* as well.
An Adams A7 hybrid that may well be up for sale soon
An old Seal 7 wood with a steel shaft
An older Fazer lob wedge
An old Fazer IT4G mallet putter
Still got my old Jack Nicklaus Muirfield Persimmon woods. I think you actually had to be Jack Nicklaus to hit a good shot with them, especially the driver. Lovely to look at though.
I like old gear and have a few things I've picked up from charity shops/ebay at rock bottom prices including (are you there Oddsocks?) some nice Ping Eye 2 woods.
I've got the persimmon my parents had made for me for my 18th and that will go nowhere. I do hit it once in a while but I keep it for sentimental reasons really now my dad isn't here.
I still have all the old clubs I played with in the late 80's.
The 'woods' are small headed metal.
These are the irons...
I also had a Golfcraft 1 iron.
The only one I don't have is the putter. It was an Acushnet Bullseye, and I took it to the course when my putting wasn't going well, 4 putted the first green with it and left it in the bin by the 2nd tee.
Currently stored in the attic unlikely to see the light of day again
Ryder persimmon 1, 3 and 5 woods the size of a teaspoon which i used to nail but now doubt i could even hit.
Callaway Big bertha warbird 9 degree stiff
Controller 1 iron probably the first Hybrid about, was supposed to bring a draw back to the right and a fade back to the left but i could never get the blooming thing airbourne and pride of place goes to a copper berrylium mizuno TP 9 wedge that felt great in the shop but was a veritible shanking machine, tried off loading it to the juniors in the club and every one of them came down with the dreaded sherman tanks. Scared to go to near it in case it is still contagious
Just lost my post when the forum decided I'd not logged in - which I surely did, otherwise wouldn't have been able to compose my post......
I've just been down the range, and for an experiment took the old Callaway 10° Warbird driver and matching 4 wood along with my regular clubs. I started by measuring the range markers with my laser, and ascertained that they were all true to a yard or so, and then warmed up with my regular 7 iron. Was swinging quite nicely, 7 iron coming down on or about the 150 with frozen range balls.
Once I was warmed up, pulled the 4 wood out and hit a couple of the deck - just about cleared the 150yd marker, maybe 160/ 180, but ball flight was incredibly low. After I'd hit half a dozen or so, I tried the 10° driver, tee'd it up on the regular driver tee.......and promptly sent it into orbit. Second attempt, changed to the lower iron tee and proceeded to nail it about 190/ 200 yds.
I then pulled out my G15 3 wood (normally hit this 220 - 230, have even hit it 253 once - measured by my brother in despair as I'd just out hit his driver :rofl, and proceeded to hit it down to the 200 yd marker with ease, no roll out today as it was a bit soggy after the snow yesterday. Switched to my G15 driver and started landing around 220/ 230.
Didn't seem to have any trouble with direction today, everything pretty much straight down the middle, both old and new technology regardless. The main points for me
1. The lack of feel when connecting with the ball through the older clubs. With the Pings, you can feel when you connect, you get the nice "ting", but with the Callaway's it was just a dull thud.
2. older clubs had a much lower ball flight despite only half degree difference in the drivers, which I'm sure helped contribute to the lack of distance.
3. older clubs were much smaller, and the club shape didn't help or give confidence when hitting, specifically the 4 wood off the deck.
Result - they can stay in the naughty bag, I'm sticking with my nice modern Ping's.
I play Ping eye 2 irons and zing woods, and an anser putter all from 96, putter 70's. I also have a 68-69 set of wilson x31's and mizuno persimmons that get the odd outing. Very occasionaly I get out the 1930's blades and persimmon woods ( hotch potch set). I am currently refinishing a set of hickory clubs.
earlier on in the year i bought a great big bertha driver with 6.5* and a great big bertha 3 wood....took me back to the days when i was a junior but i sold them on.only got what i play with now.
