No women at Muirfield

So if they are allowed to play the course, are allowed in the clubhouse, then why aren't they allowed to be members?

2 days a year....Men's invitation day and club championship. As opposed to 52 half days a year for ladies day. Although in the winter months, those half days are effectively whole days as you struggle to get 18 holes in after 12pm

So during the regular medals, stablefords etc held at the weekend are the ladies allowed to enter? Or are there are no tee restrictions in place affected those not in the competition?
If so then fair enough, that's better than most.

We run medals at weekends, they will be either a mens or ladies events but either sex can book a tee time and play but obviously only enter the appropriate gender competition.

Same with us - and some blokes resent it that ladies can book the tee for their comp early morning when early morning slots for gents comp are sought after.

Firstly for all those who say it is not a story then read the papers or listen to the radio or watch TV or look on twitter, in the real world it is a story.

In the "real world" people are dying at the hands of their own government...

Yes, this is an 'issue' but in the scheme of life... Where does it stand in importance?

As I have said before Britain is about as tolerant as it gets... Could be better? Yes! Attitudes have changed greatly in my lifetime and are set for greater steps forward in the next generation... Do long edicts from anyone speed those changes up... I doubt it...

Can't be much fairer than that then. My club, and many others, restrict the tee times for comps so when there is a men's comp on the ladies are impacted. Your set up is very fair in that respect.

Then I suggest you look at joining a different club because as stated, the 2 clubs I'm in they get a better deal than men.

Well no point me arguing the specifics at your club. If ladies do get a better deal than the men you have a rare club indeed. I'd guess these Thursdays are a throwback and should have been removed when you went for equality. I'd also guess that all the usual golf club sexist nonsense still goes on but you just don't realise it.

If I could find a local club with a similar attitude to comps I would consider joining. As it is my club would claim to be truly equal and yet there are several weekend days I have no chance of playing and none where the same applies for the men.

Why would ANYONE want to join a club , when you know that MORE than 50% of the members don't want you as a member.
BTW i'm no sexist just ask IAING , re the ladies playing behind us yesterday who gave my mate his wedge back. They can join my club any day i nearly proposed yesterday.:smirk:

It's possible that your club might be able to do better, but I'd be prepared to bet that Females are greatly, if not vastly, outnumbered by Males at your club. So I don't believe it would actually really be fair to have the same number of weekends blocked out for their respective comps.

Is there no chance that both Mens and Ladies comps can be run at the same time?

Or is it that the numbers in Mens competitions means that it's likely to fill the day - so the entire day is blocked out for the competition. While the numbers entering weekend Ladies competitions simply means that only a few or even couple of hours needs to be blockd out.

And is the entire day actually blocked out on Men's comp days? Or just so much of it that it makes it very difficult to secure a casual round? If you provide the numbers in recent Mens and Ladies comps it would be a little easier to see whether the above is correct.

As for 'Ladies Mornings', Yes, I believe this is hangover from previous days. I don't actually see it as an extra benefit to Ladies, provided it's fully subscribed. It's no different to a similar standard booking for Seniors imo. It certainly provide ome degree of certainty for all members.
