No ones better than their handicap... or are they?

Its just a fun thread so take any three cards you like to be honest

So best of my last 3 comps would put me at 17 instead of the 18.8 I'm currently residing at. Best of my last three general rounds would put me at 12.... Was really confident in last weeks turkey medal that I was going to make some serious inroads there, but the wind gave me a good kicking on Sunday :(

Mine are (scratch relative to CSS) 9 over, level, 2 over

But I played > 30 qualifiers on 12 different courses this year so I'm happy to think my handicap is reasonably accurate.

1 under and 2 not worth mentioning, so I would be off 10, rather than 11.

Cards from social golf would have me off 8, and my society handicap is 9.

Not too far away then.

My last 3, 84 +12, 75 +3, 75 +3... my 5.4 would go to 5.5, then its 5.2 then 5.0.

Just had a look at my year's numbers. About a handful in the 80's, and a mountain of them are 77's and 78's. Think my average is 77.26

This is why handicaps are worked off comps rather than bounce games pretty sure we all shoot lower in a relaxed social knock as against a medal with a comp card in hand.

To be honest, I seem to be the opposite. I just relax too much, lose focus, chat away in social golf. All my best scores have come in competition.

Was going to post something similar. This year especially my best scores have been in competitive rounds. Tend to mess around trying all sorts in social games that I don't have the ability to pull off!!

Same here. I need the buzz before I start concentrating. Even then I sometimes need a kicking before I'll get going.

I have just used my usual handicap prediction model to work out how many comps it would take me to get to a 0.0 exact handicap if I suddendly started shooting level par every round. And based on my calculations at my own course where CSS is often 1 or 2 strokes above SSS on 1 course but pretty much equal to SSS on the 2nd, it would take me 24 consecutive level par rounds to get from my current exact handicap of 13.3 down to 0.0.

Kind of reinforces the point despite this being the most extreme of examples, for rapid improvers your actual handicap normally lags behind your actual playing ability.

So to sumarise and in response to the original question posted, yes I believe that some players are better than their current handicap.

I have the ability to play well below my handicap, I know that, Imurg knows that too
What I lack is the consistency to actually make it happen on a regular basis

But to be honest, after my recent back problems, I'm just happy to still be playing :)

When you put in your first 3 cards for handicap, it the best adjusted card that determines your handicap. My last 3 net scores at my club were 6 over SSS , 8 over and 9 over however stuck in the middle of those was a level round at an away course.

Weirdly when I worked out my fake initial handicap using the US slope system it came out at 17 but looks like it would be 19 on the UK system

That's fairly consistent. They generally say the US slope system is about 2 shots lower.

This is where I fail. If I'm playing a social game I'm relaxed, usually enjoying it and
usually score below H'cap.
I don't know why but put a card in my hand and I just can't seem to play the same.
The swing isn't relaxed and the putts just don't drop.

I need to just play like I don't care. the problem is, I Do:confused:

Going back to the "how good" Thread..I think this is a large part of what separates the great from the good and the good from the average.

I don't care enough. I remember my caddie giving me a roasting(must remember the U-rating) on the 7th hole in the second round of a club championship for just doing the usual coasting along, not really trying. I reeled off 6 birdies in the last 11 holes. I need a kicking to really get going. If you play me in matchplay be mega nice and you'll win.
