No ones better than their handicap... or are they?

In the “what level could you reach” thread and a few related it to a drop in handicap as a kind of how low could you go and the phrase ‘no-ones better than their handicap’ cropped up a couple of times

So just for fun then, if your last three comp cards were actually to determine your initial handicap what would your handicap be set at and how does that compare to your current playing handicap?

I don’t have my cards to hand but from memory if I've worked it out right I’d be allocated roughly an 18 handicap & be 3 shots lower than I am

You?

edit:
despite the thread title I make no apologies that its not a tale about bandits

Golf handicaps should be a genuine measure of where you are, especially if you play in competitions regularly. My h/c is high and based on my usual collapses with a card in my hand it is a little generous still. You don't get your h/c based on the odd good shot or decent hole, it is over 18 holes. That is why it should be a true measure. I can play to it in social games but not when the pressure is on. Dealing with pressure is part of the game, off the tee, twitchy putts etc. so you have to accept your lot.

In the answer to the question, I'm too embarassed but it would be higher than I am now and high enough to force me from this forum come the Cat 1 revolution when all high h/c are driven from this earth.

74, 79 and 85
With a SSS of 69 that would put me off 5 - currently 6.6...

Now doesn't that make you feel a wee bit better :D

I'm fortunate to have had a PB three weeks ago so despite the cut I expected mine to be out using initial workings

Do they need to be comp cards to decide an initial handicap? Thought any three general play cards signed by another member can be used to determine an initial handicap?

If general play are used, the scores are very different to my last three comps and my handicap would be quite different ..... having played at least two rounds 7 under handicap in the last couple of weeks (shh, don't tell LiverpoolPhil). Even taking my last three comp cards, maybe a shot and a half better than now, but I may be miscalculating

Its just a fun thread so take any three cards you like to be honest

There are a number of people better than their handicap. Those that cheat, deliberately maintaining a high handicap for use in top comps. And then there's those going through a purple patch of form, and their handicap is playing catch up. This might also apply to juniors as they grow. All of a sudden they're reaching par 4's in 2, when a few months ago they couldn't.

I think if I took my last 3 comp scores I'd be off about 18.

If I took my last 3 scores I'd be off about 9.

Go figure

Weirdly when I worked out my fake initial handicap using the US slope system it came out at 17 but looks like it would be 19 on the UK system

I was given a 14 handicap after my 3 cards and in the 20 odd rounds since I have only come close to it once! 4 comps = .4 back so one away from 15. But it makes me strive to get better now.I don't think winning is the be all and end all, just as happy to have a good round in great company!

81 (+10), 85 (+14), 85 (+14) so id be nowhere near a 7....however the round before was a 73 (+1), so it just highlights how inconsistent I have been this year.
