Martin Slumbers has confirmed that Turnberry will not be considered as a host venue any time soon. Main stated reason is that too much focus will be on the owner and not enough on the golf.

comes to mind.......if the TV focus on the golf like they should, end of story.

Forget the Press. Go online and see all the reels of folk virtually poking out their own eyes after the Dems lost.

Just imagine the coach loads of TDS Sufferers who'd rock up at Turnberry if the Open was there.

Regardless, it's just not worth the aggro. There's plenty of other places to stage the Open.

I’d love to see it back at RLSA — I have ‘travelled enough’ and played enough top courses to know it’s a proper test of the highest quality, but I’m not good enough a player to fully understand this and see it as clearly as a scratch golfer would…

It’s often said if you get your golf ball out of the ideal line there on a number of holes you’re screwed — it’s just that I’m quite often ‘out of line’ on any number of holes 🤪😂

Like the changes for 7th & 8th holes

Are these the changes that Trump personally was involved in the design ? I did read somewhere, and not from Trump himself or fanboys, that he is a very good judge of golf architecture. He has spent lot of time playing the worlds best courses I guess, which must help.

It's not about Trump grandstanding, if the Open goes to Turnberry. It's about the disruption that would happen by folk protesting.

Sadly, it's a sensible position for the R&A to take to keep the attention on the golf.

Forget the rights/wrongs/ hypocrisy... it's just the pragmatic position.

Spot on

Not sure where you are coming from here.....
the comment is about the golf course improvement or not ????

do you think the changes are good or bad ????

Reply was nothing to do with the course improvements, but agreeing with the post quoted re R&A’s position on the open venue, possible protests/disruption. As sad as that’s been it’s 100% been the best and most sensible approach.
