Improving for the Open ?

Does that improvement include a change of ownership as that’s what is required for The Open to return to Turnberry
Trump has done and is doing a great job at Turnberry. The place is above anything you see in the UK anywhere. He’s such a bad guy that he will most likely be president of the US again on November 5th. The R&A are an embarrassment. It’s absolutely not stopped Turnberry from improving as a venue since the last open and doesn’t seem to be hurting the business so I would just keep doing what i was doing if I were the owner. Haters goina hate as they say.

I guess you missed the clear reason why the Open won’t go there whilst he is the owner

It’s irrelevant how good it is there is no doubt that Trump is desperate for The Open

the Open there would give him a massive vehicle to make it all about him

The R&A are in no way an embarrassment with regard to this. Turnberry is a pest to get to and has never been a regular host to the Open anyway.
It’s less than an hour from Glasgow, roads to it have been massively improved over the last 10 years.
It matters not everyone knows it’s probably the top course to host an open. They don’t actually need the open there to validate the venue, it speaks for itself. The R&A are just trying to pander to the left wing hoping somehow it changes ownership or he dies. Disgraceful and says more about them than anything else.

Oh yeah he’s going to make the open all about himself. Absolute nonsense, he probably would hardly be seen at the venue. He absolutely loves golf and I’m pretty sure he would enjoy the golf for what it is

It's not about Trump grandstanding, if the Open going to Turnberry. It's about the disruption that would happen by folk protesting.

Sadly a sensible position for the R&A to take to keep the attention on the golf

Forget the rights/wrongs/ hypocrisy... it's just a pragmatic position to take.

You're right, imagine a few hundred Arthur Wedge's there protesting. What a sorry sight it would be.

All Trump did was stump up the money…and who even knows where that has come from…some of his grifts or scams no doubt. He is a vile abhorrence of a person with whom (or anything linked to him) I’ll have nothing to do with. It’s a shame for Turnberry not hosting the Open, but if you choose to sup with the devil you should use a long spoon.

Trump lovers can play and eulogise about the place, and happily live with their conscience, up to them.

When I talked to the GM at RSG he told me that the R&A take over the whole course except for the clubhouse and it's surrounds, surely the R&A could hold the Open at Turnberry and make it work, would not be hard if they had a mind to do it.

But the R&A have not been great in some of their decisions of late, I my opinion.

Think the Pro's would love to play the Open there.

Not sure that Tunberry is the best course. Muirfield has always been considered far superior.

Tunberry is probably more scenic than most though with it's backdrop of Arrange and Ailsa Craig.

Although access is a bit better it's still not great with the main access route taking traffic to the ferry port and regular traffic jams outside Ayr.
I think the other problem is a lack of local rental accommodations.
