Munchies in your bag?

bottle or 2 of powerade and if I remember 2 bananas and thats it. Didnt take anything today but still felt fresh as a daisy on the 18th and birdied it :)

I always buy a lucazade and a mars bar at the pro shop.. left them in the car on saturday so brought some bottles of water at the 6th/14th hole cabin and a snickers... rejuvenated my round! Snickers are the way forward.
Anybody told you Philly, in a darkened room,at a certain angle and with a few years knocked off you could pass for a Rory lookalike :D

Chewing gum and a bottle of water.

Honestly. A round of golf lasts 3 1/2 or 4 hours. And its not exactly climbing Everest.
Unless someone has a medical condition that means they need to eat, can't folk go for this time without stuffing their faces.

The average golfer walks approx 6 miles during a round, add to this the need to stay focused when required, many people carry a bag weighing upwards of 15Kg this alone burns upto 1000cals, I think that is the reason for people eating during a round, and drinking to keep hydrated. It also means that at the end of the round you are still feeling pretty good and a few scoops wont affect you as much with the ability to soak up that much needed alcohol.

I'm with iaing, I often go out with nothing. I can go 4 hours at work without food, so why is golf different. Yes, it is a four mile walk, but that is not proper exercise, it's a saunter at best. If you need food to get round, you should seriously look at your fitness.

Being a diabetic limits me and means I have to do it regardless. Fitness isn't the issue (4 rounds in one day for Macmillan) but I do have to make sure the blood sugar isn't allowed to drop. Surely though even if you are physically fit, concentration must lag to a degree if you are hungry or thirsty even at club golfer level

Obviously that post was not pointed at people with medical conditions, but most don't have them, and just pig out on the course under the excuse of exercise.

Played in an away match last year and one of our opponents had 2 bacon butties, a mars and two cups of tea at the halfway house. Fat lardy gutbucket. Didn't do him any harm as we got tonked 5&3 and he had a blinder of 19

for me its a 2ltr bottle of water than a bag of nuts and raisens to keep me going, never used to have food but found it help with energy levels so worth it. and i think even if its only four hours people still need to keep hydrated, they say your ment to drink 8 glasses of water a day anyway so if u factor in playing a round that adds up. i know golf isnt exactly intesnsive sport but its still exercise!!

Nonsense !
Let's break it down.

If, as you say, players walk 6 miles during a round, even walking realllllyyy slooowllly the 6 miles should take no longer than 2 hours.
Therefore in a 4 hour round, 2 hours are actually spent doing not a lot...hitting golf shots, lining up putts and watching your playing partners hit shots...not exactly strenuous.
As far as staying focused, then God help us if folk can't concentrate for 4 hours without eating.
If people want to eat on the course then that's fine...just don't try to tell me that they need to ( unless as stated before it's for a medical reason ) !!

Don't most the pro's eat while out playing in comps? and they don't have to carry a bag, they hit less shots and majority of them are really fit.

Also the people saying they take a hip flask of scotch out with them i hope they don't have to drive a car home after the round! :)

I carry a bottle of water & two Mars Bars.
One Mars for my playing partners if they want it & one for me.................but, in order for me to have my Mars, I have to earn it, so, it's one bite every time I get a par on the back nine.
Sounds pathetic maybe but I find that little incentive works.

Slime.

P.S. If I've not had a par by the 16th I scoff it anyway .

I normally take a couple of litres of triple filtered spring water, and some fresh fruit. If i think the round might be more gruelling than normal, then i may also pack some dried apricots and maybe some pumpkin seeds. :D
The way some people go on you'd think you were doing this for a living, add to this the fact that your average middle aged golfer could do with losing a few pounds and you really have to ask why the feck you'd need to eat anything during your round.
Its four hours (hopefully) of gentle strolling,i take a bottle of water and sometimes have a coffee and a chocolate bar at the halfway hut.

A granola bar and a litre of diluting juice is hardly pigging out. In fact, I'd call it pretty darned sensible...

But if you can still concentrate after 3 hours and a thousand calories then more power to you :)
