Anybody told you Philly, in a darkened room,at a certain angle and with a few years knocked off you could pass for a Rory lookalikeI always buy a lucazade and a mars bar at the pro shop.. left them in the car on saturday so brought some bottles of water at the 6th/14th hole cabin and a snickers... rejuvenated my round! Snickers are the way forward.
Chewing gum and a bottle of water.
Honestly. A round of golf lasts 3 1/2 or 4 hours. And its not exactly climbing Everest.
Unless someone has a medical condition that means they need to eat, can't folk go for this time without stuffing their faces.
I'm with iaing, I often go out with nothing. I can go 4 hours at work without food, so why is golf different. Yes, it is a four mile walk, but that is not proper exercise, it's a saunter at best. If you need food to get round, you should seriously look at your fitness.
Being a diabetic limits me and means I have to do it regardless. Fitness isn't the issue (4 rounds in one day for Macmillan) but I do have to make sure the blood sugar isn't allowed to drop. Surely though even if you are physically fit, concentration must lag to a degree if you are hungry or thirsty even at club golfer level
The average golfer walks approx 6 miles during a round, add to this the need to stay focused when required, many people carry a bag weighing upwards of 15Kg this alone burns upto 1000cals, I think that is the reason for people eating during a round, and drinking to keep hydrated. It also means that at the end of the round you are still feeling pretty good and a few scoops wont affect you as much with the ability to soak up that much needed alcohol.
If i think the round might be more gruelling than normal, then i may also pack some dried apricots and maybe some pumpkin seeds.![]()
Obviously that post was not pointed at people with medical conditions, but most don't have them, and just pig out on the course under the excuse of exercise.
