Reachable Par 5 for me. There's just something about them, especially if you get a good drive away.
It shouldn't be any different to a long par 4, but psychologically to me the difference is massive.

Back on ProV1 now after trying a lot of the equivalents last year, but only because I found some for £25.

What is the difference between a par 5 reachable in 2, and a tough long par 4?

I probably don't get a shot on the par 5, so if I get on in two, and two putt I get 3 points.
I probably get a shot on the par 4, so if I get on in two, and two putt, I get 3 points.

In both cases, a five would be on handicap.

One's a par 5 and one's a par 4...

I understand what you're saying Murph, although I'm often surprised by the number of shortish par 5s I still get a shot on. But either way, how many people really play without the par of the hole nagging away at them somewhere? I suspect most golfers have a very different mindset or approach as they step onto a hole where their expectation is of a good birdie chance, and one on which they'd be relieved to walk away off with par

I can't decide on the type of hole. For me, every hole starts with and is dictated by a tee shot. An easy to reach par 5 isn't easy if you drive it in the clag.

Sorry for the boring outlook :D

Ah, but you haven't hit it into the clag when you arrive at the tee...

When you're playing real golf (medal) it has to be better to make a birdie

I love having a lash at par 5s in two & use a ProV1X.

Yep this is me too, looks like a popular option..

Though I do rather like other peoples Pro V1s or Z-Stars rather than my own.

Must have had 10 Pro Vs from my range baskets the last few weeks.

True but thinking 3 or 4 shots ahead gets me into trouble, I prefer to hit my shot and take it from there.

I like the long ,3 shotter par 5. Nothing like planning the hole and then playing it well. A real test of your whole game- driving has to be spot on, long iron or fairway wood pressure for the second, then after all that a 8 or 9 iron left into the green. One bad shot and it's all over.

Anyonw who's ever played the 3rd at Fereneze will know what i mean!

I use the TM Penta P as first choice, but will happily switch to Pro V if i have to. Haven't really tried many other brands but always play a premium.

I just prefer the feel of the Penta off every club

What hole would I most love to play at Augusta? 12th or 16th. Pebble Beach? 7th or 17th. Waldringfield? 18th. All par 3's. All involve water. All a test of accuracy. Nothing better than sticking it close on the tee on a par 3. I've birdied par 4's, birdied par 5's never a Par 3. Well not yet anyway!

I went for the reachable par 5 but what really makes a hole for me is its visual appeal.
Something you can enjoy when you're just standing on the tee taking in the prospect of the hole ahead.
A nice view of the green for you approach shot, I patricularly like playing to a green positioned below me.
A green with a few borrows and a few features around it.

I don't consistently play a particular type of ball, premium for a big game, anything half decent for a general game.

How many people are thinking,"when was the last time I had a chance of reaching a Par 5 in 2?"
It was a number of years ago for me. Am I the only one? :D
Or are you oldies still big hitters? ;)

Short well guarded par 3, where only an accurate iron saves a certain bogey.

17th at Sawgrass would be a good example.

I don't really have a favourite type of hole. I've played all of the listed versions and have favourites in all of them usually as a result of their layout and scenery rather than the golfing challenge per se. Every hole and every type is just another obstacle to get over (and enjoyed) on route to shooting as low as you can

I went for the drive/short iron par 4 as you didn't have the 170+ par 3. good longer irons - 4 or 5 - (and long is relative) are much more satisfying.

mostly I have been using Bridgestone e6, e5 but provo's can be anything - Z-star, DX2, NXT, Pro-V (so easy to find!)

I'll take a reachable par 5 please. 2 quality strikes to set up a certain birdie, possible eagle.
Using ProV, ZStar, Tour(i) whichever comes out of the ball pocket first.

I prefer a drive short iron par 4when you can get close real golf and a chance for a bird, combined with a hazard that's true golf

I'd agree with that.

And a nice premium ball for me.

+1

330 yrd 15th at my place is a hole I always look forward to.
Love the chance to place my drive, maybe with a 3 wood, then go at the flag with a 9, PW or GW to give me a chance for a birdie. However, narrow, well guarded, sloping green means that 5 (or worse) is always a possibility.

Drivable par 4 for me because:

My driving has been pretty good and so has my short game.
My irons have been pish! Struggling to hit greens (even inside 100-150 yards).
