Mince Pies

thanks for restarting the thread Bob

Guys I have a favour to ask. I will have the first week of Dec in UK. With limited time & opportunity to try them all but its crucial I consume the very best of what the UK has to offer in its xmas 25 mince pie range

So I need this thread updated with your ‘best of the lot’ pick pls

I’m not interested in what they were like in 2024, reputations count for nought, gotta be what the currant taste is (swidt)
Not interested in ‘great value 6 for 2 quid’ but don’t want to pay top whack for some peely wally effort that’s all show and no substance

And the nominations are… (& you must have tried them :p )

You lot do realise that you can make your own mince pies so they are exactly how you like them? More/less fruit, thinner/thicker pastry, more/less sugar on top- the combinations are endless.

Guys, what the flip!

I fly later this week and I'm to believe no one's munched on their first pack of the season? You lot are just not trying 😖

I have had the in store baked ones at

Co Op
Morrisons
M&S

And Waitrose

Best filling was in M&S

Best pastry was Co Op

But overall the ones in Waitrose were far superior than all the others

Cheers Phil, you did the right thing. it's not good to keep this kind of stuff bottled up inside 😁

Morrisons and Aldi 'Best' so far and both very nice. Never, ever, go for the basic pack. That only leads to disappointment

I got carried away and bought some Morrisons Cherry Bakewell Mince Pies. Loved the concept, as is often the way, they were too mean with the filling. Ah well.

Have tried some Asda Rum infused ones that were on offer the other week, nothing special really and Aldi's 'Specially Selected' on offer at £1.49 for 6, not much more than the ordinary ones, these were good, my favorite last year.

We tried Framjipan ones yesterday as well as crumble topped ones from Tesco.

Neither were a patch on the proper original ones and have told the wife if she don’t pick up her game she might not be allowed to do the food shop anymore.

Xmas is coming it’s what she has been working towards all year and I hope she doesn’t blow it now.

I’m sure my team talk will have the desired affect. 😂

Spotted some in our little corner shop yesterday. Very posh box but ‘no name.’ The box went in the bin 10 mins back.

Best shop bought ones I’ve tried recently: Mr Kiplings all butter mince pice, infused with Cider and brandy. You get 4 in a box, it’s not enough I eat them all in one sitting 🤤

Another I tried at the weekend Caffè Nero in house baked all butter mince pie, was absolutely lovely and the perfect accompaniment to a good coffee.

Cheers guys, you're upped your game in last couple of days, typical blokes you just needed asking twice! ;)

As a cider drinker I'm keen to try those ones as a wee diversion but for traditional style it seems M&S are getting some love so far
Coop local to where i'll be so sounds like it needs sampling too
