During the mid 90's i played in the Daily Express UK matchplay competition. After entering it consisted of being drawn against other local golfers at home or away. If (as i did one year) you win all your matches you got to go to spain to play other regional winners in the national finals. In 1996 i was beaten in the semis at La Quinta, Marbella, this weeks golf + digs + flights all paid for.
This was a well run matchplay competition that was open to any club golfer in the country. Has anyone else played in this event, and although this competition no longer runs, does anyone know of competitions like this that currently run.

Our local paper (the PA) takes part in a competition called the Sunshine Challenge. You enter your area and play matchplay drawn home or away against other players and if you progress far enough go to the regional final at Gleneagles and the winner from that joins all the other regional winners in some sunny resort in Spain/Portugal.

There are some independent companies that do similar competitions for pairs aswell as singles although can't remember their names - often see them advertising in the golf magazines at the start of the season.
