Magazine forum spread - new writer/compiler/editor required...

why would you even bother saying that...:confused:

it just shows that most people are grateful and would love to do the job even though it's voluntary and then there's the others:(

Wull

Wind your neck in mate.

As one who has been involved in unpaid voluntary work for more years than I care to remember, I know exactly where Yerman is coming from.

Whilst Colin, and Homer before him, have done a great job for the Forum page of GM, I'm sure that I have got far more (satisfaction isn't quite the word I'm searching for) from giving some of my free time to help those who really need it.

To paraphrase you a little, you say that most people are grateful and would love to do the job even though it's voluntary....

I would say that as in all areas involving voluntary work, most people are grateful that a (few) others are willing to do it to salve your (collective) conscience.

I note that, as I post this, it seems that most people would NOT love to do the job as only one person has responded with an email to GM.

How do you know that  Because only one person has stated that they have replied via email? Hardly conclusive proof.

wind my neck in!!!seriously?

you need to read my post as it couldn't be further from that......

i can understand what you are saying but like i've said, what is the point in posting that?if you are clearly not interested in the position and don't think it's a good oppertunity for someone then don't bother posting.

Dear god, the magazine does not claim to be a charity. This is an unpaid single function position and some people would love to tackle it. Mentioning working for charity is not even in the same county as what is being offered on the table here, perhaps even a petty dig? I don't know why this was even mentioned to be honest, it really isn't a problem.
GM have plenty of regular staff who could do this feature in the mag but decided to offer it out to the forum as it about the forum so why not let one of the guys do it?

Here Here.
I would consider doing it but would not be sure I could match the present quality. Definitely think Jezz needs to do the test thing and let each applicant prove what they can do to keep the high standard Colin has made.

well said!

Cheers ColinT for a sterling job. Its the first pages I turn to when I get the mag through the door. I hope the health issues clear up soon. Good luck to whoever applies for this, you've got some big shoes to fill..
And thanks to voluntary workers in all walks of life for "salving our collective conscience"..

Bob, go for it. Your the very man in my opinion.
You've got the ability no probs.

Dodger or Craw could shake it up a bit :)

I have enough on my plate looking after 500 plus Wud!;)

Hope Colin keeps better and as has been said he has done a great job,it is always a great piece to read and could probably be extended to 4 pages with the banter that goes on in here.

Sure niceboy has plenty spare time mind...

Perhaps a joint effort of 2 forumites could work well and ease the work-load on just one person, plus a mix of ideas...

I'm just feeling great this morning now my consicence has been salved...:mmm:

Just want to pass on a big thanks to Colin for the efforts. This is one of my first stops when the mag arrives and I always enjoy the spread.

Great talent, great job

Thanks for the good wishes folks, really really appreciated.

Just to pick up on the voluntary work point, as has been said the mag isn't a charity and this isn't the same in any way at all to real voluntary work. Yes it's unpaid, I picked up a few freebies from the mythical gm towers gear cupboard, but they were the icing on the cake to be honest and I'd have done it without getting anything. (no Jezz, you can't have them back)

Compiling the pages, picking up the mag every month and seeing your work in print, and even seeing your name in 3 milimetre high letters at the front of the mag alongside professional writers and golfers, was a huge buzz for me. I'll never forget being on a tube in London and seeing a guy reading the pages, at one point he laughed out loud and I swear I had to stop myself from hugging him.

I'm sure one of the pro writers at the mag could do a better job in half the time, but the fact that the mag donates so much time to the forum, and allows one of us to put the pages together, is fantastic in my opinion and helps make us feel part of the mag, rather than just consumers.

I loved doing it, and I know homer did before me. Homer helped me out with a coupleof things when I first started, so I'm more than happy to help the new recruit in any way if it's needed.

Good luck to whoever does it, I'm almost tempted to reapply !!

I'm sure many would love a go at this me included (even as forum newbie) but I'm unsure if I could do it justice.

Good luck to whoever gets the nod
