Compression socks really helped me with tight calfs. Also a sports massage once a month, I rotate between calf's Quads and hamstrings at the moment.
Good news.Ended up just a strained muscle, got to take it easier, slow jog / fast walk pace for a week or so…..
Think I’ll need to get some compression shorts to help.
Cold weather up here probably doesn’t help.
72kg, are you 5ftGreat session today Shoulders and Back some good weight moved completely pain free. Finished up with a tasty 18 minute MetCon ladder session of 40kg Barbell Overhead push press increasing reps every time (2,4,6,8 etc) until couldn’t increase anymore, with 200m treadmill intervals between sets speed @ 20km/h on a 3% incline. No rest allowed got the ladder up to 16reps before having to go all the way back down it reversing the reps, managed to get all the way back down but that meant a total of 16sets and Sprints was absolutely red lining my heart rate at the end but feel so good for it
Even weighed myself today I’m down 7kg to 72KG which is surprisingly light for me and I’m not seeing any loss of power output so gotta be happy with that! Though according to Dr I’m still obese![]()
Close, I’m really tall me at 5’5”72kg, are you 5ft![]()
I remember the same but I’d lost 30kg down to 88kg told me I’m morbidly obese.Close, I’m really tall me at 5’5”
Hence I’m classed as obese even at 72KG by the Dr at my annual check ups. I usually float around 76-79kg (which is where I prefer to be), usually the upper end due to the type of training I do and eating like a horse. Also sit around 12-15% body fat at that weight so I’m in decent nick but nope Dr still says “you're over weight Mr Morningstar”
Winds me up basing everything on BMI. I can bench more than my body weight squat and deadlift over 2x my bodyweight, run a sub 9min 1.5mile and 21min 5km. Yet every time I have a check up I’m told my ideal weight is 65kg!! If I went that low I couldn’t do any of the above, I wouldn’t be able to carry out my primary job role, muscle mass would disappear and I’d be constantly knackered!I remember the same but I’d lost 30kg down to 88kg told me I’m morbidly obese.
But could run a 23 minute 5k, 48 minute 10k and a 1;53 half marathon. But yes I was still way overweight
Yeah. The thing with BMI is that it doesnt take body composition in to account. The example i always use is that Arnie, when he won his last Mr Olympia title in 1979 would have been classed as obese on the BMI scale. Mr Olympia, obese. Yeah.Winds me up basing everything on BMI. Oh I don’t stress it. I am probably a little lighter right now than I’d want to be. I prefer to sit around 76kg which is clinically obeseYeah. Thats not to say that BMI does not have its place, when usd in the correct context, e.g a clinical setting, with someone who is clearly overweight/underweight to provide a quick snapshot. Yes, then its a good, quick tool to use.
For more 'physically active populations', lets say and those who need numbers. Hip to waist ratio maybe better. Skinfold calipers are also very good at tracking bodyfat, provided you have a good set and a person who knows what they are doing. DEXA is the gold standard, if you have money to burn. Dont waste time with bioelectrial impedence machines like smart scales and things, they are useless.
However, just going off how you feel is more then enough. How to your clothes fit? Are they looser than before? Do you look different in the mirror? You could utilise tape measurement also and track these once per month and this will be a solid indicator of progress.
And the obvious [and overused] one of scale weight, which you mention is coming down, so obviously something is working.
Theres a lot of tools in the box, use a few, but dont stress too much![]()
Nice. Keep it up!Oh I don’t stress it. I am probably a little lighter right now than I’d want to be. I prefer to sit around 76kg which is clinically obese
But body fat is low, strength and cardio is good and still low hip to waist ratio. I usually work off BMR and get DEXA scans annually as part of my medical so sod what the Dr says about my BMi![]()

Must be some good insurance plan you have to be getting annual DEXAs!
Very lucky to get them. I never had an annual medical, was always 5 yearly after 30 years old. Only thing that was annual was the hearing test - usually after doing a full power engine run so never did wellFree courtesy on HM Forces
Though my next posting doesn’t have them so might have to forego them from next year.
Came in a couple of years back anyone over 40 is entitled to an annual MOT now so I figure why not do everything I can to keep myself in check.Very lucky to get them.
