Losing weight/fitness thread

Apologies for the long post.

I had a bit of a shoulder/arm injury towards the end of the year that curtailed some progress (not sure if too much weight or poor technique that caused it). Appears to be fully healed now though and I’m switched back on exercise wise, with the diet following suit since the start of the year. Committing to no restaurants or takeaways in January to make it a bit of a challenge.

Trying to keep the diet interesting is difficult but consistency is key for me, so I’m eating very similar meals daily for breakfast and lunch and mixing it up a bit on an evening. I tried the viral donner kebab sheet recipe tonight, with a homemade chilli sauce. Massive portion, high protein and relatively low calories. Tasty too! Need to find other healthy fakeaway options to try.

Current weather means getting the steps in is difficult. Even the dog doesn’t like being out in it. Luckily, my wife recently got herself a walking pad as she works at home and uses it whilst in meeting or on calls. I’ve used that for the past few days to keep up my >600 day streak of walking 10k steps. I’d been doing some boxing interval training last year and I got a cordless weighted jump rope at Christmas. I thought it might be a bit naff - but it is actually a decent workout and something I can do in the garage for a change from the cross trainer.

Sleeping has never been a strong point for me. I’m averaging about 5 hours a night. I would love to get this up to 7 hours to enjoy all the benefits that brings. I’ve just ordered some magnesium glycinate capsules from Nutrition Geeks to see if they help improve. Anyone have any experience/feedback with these?

Was this a bundle deal? How you finding the magnesium, helping?
I really rate nutrition geeks for their supplements and the pricing is really good if you get the bundles.

I use their Magnesium Glycinate, B12, D3 & K2 as well as their Ashwagand for sleep. I definitely find as I’ve got older supplementing with Magnesium, B12 and Vit D has definitely aided recover, aches etc.

The Ashwaganda for me has been game changing especially with my disrupted work sleep schedules. Is a placebo effect ? Maybe but if I feel personally it’s helped it’s worth the money.

Have a look at the Tom Kerridge books (Lose Weight for Good is one). He has quite a few 'fakeaway' recipes, including donner kebab (just like the shop stuff!) and fried chicken.. Really tasty stuff and fairly simple to prepare and cook.

I haven't been able to get out because of snow and ice since Saturday, I've never prayed so hard for rain.
I'm going to have to cram 90 miles in before the end of the month to keep the streak going.

Did another hour on the Peloton yesterday, 20.7miles, (first time breaking 20 miles in that time) Conditions again not suitable for running today, just to icy and too high a chance of injury.
Also did a 100 Press up's yesterday, my aim is to do 50 a day, but I've missed 2 days already, so another 100 today and I'll be back on track.

You need to set a goal and make it worthwhile, ie, not give up on it the moment you get bored.

You’ve struggled with this for a few years now, if I remember correctly, so without sounding condescending etc, you need to sort you out.

You’ve got the baby now and a child takes up a massive amount of your time and rightly so.

Be fair to yourself, look at your lifestyle and list your priorities and see if there is any spare time and if so, what can you realistically do.

Getting rid of the junk food will help without a doubt and eating healthy will benefit you all.

Biggest step will be to stop making excuses and fully commit in to anything you decide, there’s no quick fix, it’s hardwork and determination.
I suppose that's fair. Can't even go running at the moment when there's ice everywhere. I have resolved to go back on MyFitnessPal to keep a track of how many calories I'm eating. That is at least something I know I can keep up with. Exercise wise it's really just golf and getting 5000+ steps in every day. Try and keep the takeaways to one a week, but so often this becomes two, on the Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday. Given that I've never smoked, no longer drink alcohol, never drank coffee; my only vice is food these days.

Those two takeaways are destroying any progress you're making in the week, I'd be looking at cutting those to one a month if I was just starting out, imo.

See post 1765 above for good books to avoid takeaways.

On the subject of takeaways, had a chippy on Saturday and it was so disappointing. Near enough £25 for two of us, so expensive and just not what it used to be. Everything's just getting worse these days.

Absolutely no chance of that I'm afraid. I do ensure that one is on the same day I play golf, since you supposedly burn about 1000 calories doing that.

This is me also these days, I have to do something to keep my weight down as I enjoy food, most is home cooked, very little processed, but I’m greedy, to hell with portion control😂😂 I blame being the youngest of nine.😬

You can do it mate, give yourself a chance and be realistic, set short term goals, ie, as Bazz says, 1 take-away a month or lose 4lb by end of March, tiny steps.👍🏻

I can't go a week without a takeaway, it would feel like a miserable existence to me. Very few things I look forward to, golf and takeaways are probably it, on a personal level. I will aim for just one per week perhaps (on the golf day, as mentioned). Best I can do! It will help the wallet of course as well as the waistline.

Go a fortnight, I dare you😂😂
