Longest Drive

Wednesday I played in a 36 hole society day (at Came Down near Dorchester - fantastic). In the morning I won longest drive with a 293 yard effort (measured with GPS). In the afternoon I managed 312 yards and won again.

So for the measured holes, I averaged over 300 yards, which puts me 9th in the European tour stats just behind Rory Mcilroy.

So how come he is a multi millionaire and I won two pairs of socks?

Is the hole in question downwind and downhill or a very hard fairway?
If not that's a mighty fine drive you possess!
Learn to control that power and you should be flicking wedges at everything. Young Rory could be looking over his shoulder very soon!

Well done, best verifiable drive I've had is 280, it was a par 4 and I drove the green AND hit the flag.

To be it in context though, it was an elevated tee, the shot started 30 yards left of the green and I 3 putted from 15 feet

Good going, longest so far for me 310 yards verified by GPS, hard ground and a nice little slope on the fairway to keep the ball going towards the green. Been playing just over a year and it ranks as my best shot so far by far.

Remember last year at Machrahanish i drove the 18th, which is 314 yards with a 3 wood , slightly down wind.Have hit plenty over 300 but dont particularly measure them much to be honest, just want to no what i've got to left to the green. Some pretty impresive drives in previous posts tho.

The real skill is hitting 300+ everytime straight or to the required position on the fairway, how many people will do that on every round they play.

LOL HNJ - good way of looking at it. And yes Peter, the G10 has made a difference. It was a very hard dry fairway - to be honest, it's not unusaul at this time of year for me to break 300 yards. I was just pleased to hit two good ones that day at the point that it mattered. I won best front 9, but a couple of blobs put paid to my chances.

Playing in a comp tomorrow morning and I've already decided to hit driver on only 6 holes (where the risk is lower). Keep it in play and use the long running conditions.

We'll see how that works out.

Just set my record today with my new Benross driver, bit of a freak shot I admit but 296 yards, now just to get them all that long and going straight

Previous record with my untrustworthy Slazenger was 190 yards, on a side note, I notice all the driver manufacturers are now making drivers which you can turn the face on, my Slazenger did this way before, just wish there was some way to control it!
