LIV Golf

They wanted to promote Saudi as a golf destination.

They should have given the 5 billion to Core/Crenshaw, Doke and Gil Hans to build the most incredible golf courses you have ever seen on the edge of the Red Sea.
Then bring Pro events to those courses through DPWT and get every influencer under the sun over to make you tube videos.

That would have done far more to bring attention to golf in Saudi.

Unfortunately the money can’t change the culture and you aren’t going to make Saudi a destination for golf

I guess it depends how and where you do it.
If you have specific areas or islands which are deemed as separate from the rest of the country and therefore you can relax laws, making it more like the UAE, it could well work.
However as part of a ‘normal’ tourist strategy which would be part of visiting other areas of Saudi, it would be a real uphill struggle. Having been there quite a few times, I certainly wouldn’t be going near the place as a golf destination unless they divorced it from the rest of the country.

Are they growing it ?

It’s only about £1bn they need to find for each season - did they give any clues about where they will get that money from ?

Do you think it’s done

Whether it's done or not depends on many factors. Doesn't look good right now - things might look completely different in a month or so...

Have you read who those board members are and what they do?

Yes, I have.

Yep having been there a few times with work and visiting parents there is no chance I would be going there on holiday without some dramatic cultural changes which I can’t see happening anytime soon

Yes, I have.
The whole idea of a getting top players playing in events outside the US is a good idea , we all know there are some pockets of countries where crowds will come out to watch them - Aus and SA a good example as well as lots of European countries

The DP tour is in the perfect place to help that but doesn’t have the money to attract the top players

That’s the horse imo PIF should have continued to back , issue was Greg Norman’s concept was sold to them better

We can all take a good guess at what the players are doing now - they are looking for ways to get back onto the other tours and IMO the DP tour can really take advantage and get as many players as they can to help strengthen the tour

That link… what a crock of crap!

Truth- play less
Truth- earn more
Truth- big signing fees.

Nothing wrong with the above, if I was told I could get a big signing fee and work 50% less with twice the bonus I’d leave, I couldn’t then play the victim if the company I went to went pop!

Yea liv hasn’t gone bust, but in Rham’s case he left for big signing fees well over half a billion. I don’t blame him, but he can’t go back to his old boss and claim he was mistreated.

Total crock of crap, ask to go back… and ask nicely!

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if the PGAT aren't offering an immediate pathway back to the tour for a few select players within the next few weeks, and before LIV have had chance to put a plan together to try and secure future investment.

Four people will be offered a route back into the PGAT

Rahm
BDC
Smith
Johnson

A good chunk will be via the DP Tour

Those that have never had a card will go to the Asia Tour

Then there is the likes of Poulter and Westwood who have no route to either tour so will prob end up playing seniors golf

I got about 30 seconds in and thought 🔔🔚 and went back to doing something more interesting.

Nobody forced anyone to leave anyone that claims otherwise is an imbecile.

To be fair, that's pretty much their level now. Would that tour have them? Are they linked to the PGAT or are they entirely separate?
The Champions tour is directly run by and in conjunction with the PGAT so there would likely be sanctions and issues there required to meet eligibility.

The Legends Tour is an affiliated partner of DPWT so more likely a a route there but not sure what the overall links are as it’s not directly run by the same entity as it was under the Old European tour days.
