LIV Golf

Had been in 🇿🇦 for the past month. LIV is really well watched here because of the Stingers team. Lovely little documentary on their 2025 season is on SuperSport on demand. Called “Greens and Gold - a lekker South African sports story”. Well worth a watch.

The event over here is sold out I believe too.

On the PIF spending though. Having the money to spend doesn’t mean they will spend it though. There has to be a return in some form which they feel gives them some ROI. Don’t know how the Saudi guys measure that.

Liv clearly has a bright future in these non American golf mad countries.

Im not sure it can survive without some traction in the USA though.

If I was in charge of Liv I would target the areas of the USA where the PGA Tour doesnt visit like Boston and Chicago for example.
Dont even bother going to Florida, California and Texas.

If Koepka is allowed to rejoin before any 12 month finishes would that allow others to jump back ?
The question assumes that there is anyone wanting to "jump back", when there's no evidence that is the case. There seems to be much more interest from PGA Tour players (particularly the non-American ones) and non-PGA Tour players in joining LIV, but concerns about owgr and suspensions are holding them back.

With ranking points potentially just around the corner, giving Koepka a minimal suspension would alleviate those concerns, as players could then go to LIV safe in the knowledge that they simply can return to the PGA Tour after a couple of years because there aren't really any meaningful sanctions. The other issue for the tour is that it could also open the door to new legal action from any players not afforded such light "punishment" previously, currently or in future.

The tour will undoubtedly try and wrap-up and sell a short suspension on the basis that Koepka is an exception as a recent multiple major winner and never harmed the tour by promoting LIV, 'poaching' players, etc. - which will be just another lie from the tour that the media and others will doubtless lap up without challenging (indeed some are already laying the groundwork for accepting this drivel on social media). As a team captain there's absolutely no chance he didn't do all of those things, either directly or through team management.

The Anthony Kim story is gold for Liv Golf..
I wasn't watching golf when he was younger but have learned more about his journey.

From giving up pro golf for 12 years to being given 2 weeks to live to rejoining a leading tour to being embarrassed with bad play to being relegated to earning his place back on tour is quite the story for Liv to get behind.

Can he avoid relegation in 2026 ?

Wonder when his doc is coming out ?

I hope he has a great season, he was some all striker back in the day and why a redemption story of he can get some top finishes.

Is this on the correct thread? 😂

I recall some stuff about Swafford previously, the BBC are reporting:

"Swafford, a three-time tour winner who is currently working in real estate, was given one-year bans for each of the five LIV events he played in 2022 that conflicted with regular PGA Tour events. He cannot play on the PGA Tour again until 2027."

If equivalence was applied, Koepka would probably be back in time for Champions Tour!

Be interesting how they try to spin things.

Canter's 'one year' is mentioned - but he was never a PGAT member, never had a 'contract to break'. But was still suspended. 🤷‍♂️

They just make it up!

I disagreed with him being given the 2nd season, felt that was a mistake. But in the past now as he has now qualified on merit. It was clear at the back end of 2025 that the was putting scores together more often.

If they have any sense he should be welcomed back with open arms straight away.

Problem is the PGAT hasnt showed much sense in many years or maybe that was just Jay....

Well not sure how much sense anyone has shown the day within golf

Was hoping he would appear on the ET

Something about him even when he was around in 2008 just screamed entitled , brash and arrogant and even since coming back there is a lot that shows the same

He made a mess of his life and was very lucky to be thrown money at him again , both tours were looking to take advantage of him for car crash telly

Everyone deserves a second chance in life and he is very very lucky to get it to the tune of millions

PGAT flexing and dictating that level of forfeiture and brooks agreeing to it looks like some kind of humiliation ritual.
Is he that desperate to play the rocket mortgage classic??
Totally kills his ‘alpha-dog’ persona.

I think all this hinges on Bryson’s move. He moves the dial significantly more than Brooks or Rahm and Cam isn’t even in the conversation.
If BDC goes then LIV has a big problem, maybe even an existential one. If he stays then the it’s the same old narrative for the coming season, with the TV deals raising the profile more.

I wouldn’t fancy being the one opposite him on the negotiating table.

I think you’re looking into in a very different way to 90% of the golfing population. This is a big coup for PGAT whilst seemingly looking like they’re giving Brooks big sanctions. Considering the amount of coin he earned signing for LIV the fines and conditions put in place it’s not even pocket change. So Tour maintain power in seemingly having placed sanctions and Brooks maintains so much cash it’s an irrelevance.

As for killing his “Alpha Dog” persona. Bit of an odd point that considering he’s always shown he doesn’t give a toss why anyone thinks , calls it as he sees it and is going to be based now on a single
Continent week in week out it shows his commitment to his Wife and family after a horrid year for them. So his Alpha persona is still very much intact and provided he can put his game back out there will only enhance it and enhance the tour!

The tour and their media partners are certainly making out like it's a massive financial penalty, but he's not really forfeiting anything. Koepka gets to have his cake and eat it.

He keeps all the LIV money (reported to be in excess of $150 million); the charity donation is tax deductible, so actually costs him nothing; he'll play most of the events he wants to, including The Players, and only a couple he'd probably rather miss unless he qualifies for signature events; he's not eligible for bonus pool money he probably wouldn't win (much of) anyway; and most importantly the equity isn't worth a fraction of what is being quoted and he'll eventually get his shares anyway.

Anyone who thinks Brooks leaving his LIV contract early to return to the PGA Tour isn’t a bloody nose for LIV is frankly mistaken.

The bigger question and one that existed even before Brooks’ decision is whether Bryson stays.
In many ways, Brooks’ move actually increases Bryson’s leverage with LIV should he choose to remain.

Brooks leaving on its own won’t break LIV. But if it triggers Bryson to walk as well, you’d have to seriously question whether Livs days are numbered.
