LIV Golf

Again it will come down to each persons preparation

Some players on other tours don’t play for two weeks before a major

There was a LIV event recently so they would be as sharp as anyone else

there might be some though that are struggling when moving into Majors from LIV
Being on LIV itself has clearly not meant the players have given up though, as is often the charge. They want to win majors, they are still capable of winning them. That part of the discussion should be put to bed now.

For me it depends on who the golfer is

For some they know they won’t be able to get into majors and knew that when they moved so I’m not sure they are to bothered

Some like DJ prob don’t really care but then he has always been like that

And there are some that will do anything to get into a major

That is the same whatever the tour though. The old guard knew their games were failing, Poulter, Westwood, Stenson etc so winning majors was never on the agenda. The hard core, the up ands coming, playing golf in the LIV format is not stopping them. Qualifying is a different matter but the actual golf, no different to if they were on the PGA.

It won't though, will still be yet another shallow argument against something they don't agree with , haven't bothered to try to watch or just ignore but want to argue about it.

I do think its an easy jibe when a Liv player loses form to say its because he is on the Liv Tour.

For instance if Hovland had moved to Liv and lost his form like he did, 100% EVERYONE would be saying it was because he was on Liv.

Sometimes in pro golf you just lose your form or game for a period of time, it happens on all tours to all golfers.

Agree

I think being on LIV for example has affected players like Rahm and Smith but I don’t think it matters to people like Koepka or BDC

What does need to happen in majors is the “LIV leaderboards” etc it just continues any divisions etc

When they enter a major it shouldn’t matter what tour they are on but after each event it seems to be LIV fans etc that bring it up - there was very little talk about what tour a player was on last night whilst the drama was unfolding

BDC didnr lose the master because he is on LIV and Rory didn’t win the masters because he is on PGAT

We probably don't need to remind ourselves that Rory was so bad at last years Open, he had practically given up half way through the Friday round.

It doesn’t matter what tour a player is on

9/10 the quality will come through when it matters

And every golfer has periods of poor form and on every tour

There shouldn’t need to be this after every major where it’s analysed where a LIV golfer is on the leaderboard - got to stop with the mentality that everyone is out to get them and that the need go justify anything - all the talk this morning should be about the last 4 days of stunning golf and entertainment- it stands above what tour any player is on

Which right now is irrelevant 🤷‍♂️

Well obviously, if you say so....

Phil I have commented on The Masters Thread about what an amazing Masters this years edition was.
It was incredible and I was made up Rory got the monkey off his back.

This is the Liv Thread where it has been commented on how the Liv golfers fared.

There is no need to justify anything as they have done so at pretty much at every major.

I dont think commenting on where Liv Golfers finished on the Liv Thread is strange.
Surely the Liv thread is where all things Liv are discussed ?

Think you have missed the point I was making

It’s only LIV that after every major need to highlight where their players finished-

The other tours don’t and people outside liv don’t really care - anytime there is a major there are some ( not you ) - that need to keep that division up when imo it’s not helping at all

I get where your coming from...

18 months ago, and for the preceding 3 years, Rahm was clearly a Top 2 player, battling with Scottie and a long way clear of anyone else.

Fast forward to today, and nobody really knows how he stacks up. I’d probably have him between 6 and 10, arguably behind 2 others on Liv.

He’s broken 70 twice in 4 majors, ironically in the 4th round (!!) when midfield with no pressure on whatsoever. The only 4th round of any consequence he has played against a world field he completely choked.

What happened 18 months ago? He joined Liv for gazillions after slamming it for years. No judgement on that, everyone has a price.

I think the above warrants a genuine conversation, and as much as he won’t like it, will only amplify as time goes on, especially with the narrative switching away from Rory.

He may very well win the PGA next month - he is easily good enough.

You obviously care a LOT mate.

Is he good enough. Genuine question. Looked out of sorts for most of the Masters and a long way from where he was a few years ago prior to LIV. Does LIV dilute a players golfing appetite with all the money and no cuts

There has been a thing in the past 10-15 years of golfers having a crazy hot 2-3 years and then dropping back into the pack. Maybe upper echelons of the pack but still the pack. They may win the odd tournament now and again but that hot streak never quite reappears.

Maybe that is what has happened to Rahm?

I hope not, he is a cracking golfer to watch when he is flying.

Do you think Rory needs the money now? Was he thinking about the pay cheque this weekend? Money is irrelevant to these top guys, they already have more than they can spend.

Form can come and go and those very high standards are hard to maintain.

It's clear that you don't like LIV but it doesn't mean that LIV is the fault of Rahm's form. He is just going through a spell right now.

I hope we see him getting back to form as he is as you say superb to watch ,as close to Seve as we have seen - so powerful from a short swing
