LIV Golf

I won't report it as it's probably relevant, but this is a political argument you are trying to raise here. If the mods want to delete it and my response that's absolutely fine.

The Saudis human rights record is abhorent, but it is built around religious beliefs that are medieval, and valued and practiced by a legal system that is built on Shariah law. As the country moves forwards into their post oil economy, they absolutely have to change the way in which that law is enforced - the leaders of the country know that, they want to move to a progressive society that is more tolerant - let's face it - people will not visit the country en masse unless they do.
Should MBS bring an immediate halt to capital punishment in his country - we'd say yes, but we don't live in Saudi do we - and I'd imagine if he did it would cause a major uprising within the people, particularly amongst those with strong religious beliefs - I suppose he could execute the millions of people that disagreed with his actions but I doubt that would be a good look...

I haven't got time for a long winded post that will probably get taken down anyway, but I look forward to seeing how Saudi Arabia redevelops itself, not just in a physical sense, but in a societal aspect as well - it may well have far reaching implications that I know I'd welcome, living where I do in an area where some Islamic beliefs, and Shariah Law is threatening to break down the actual laws of the land.

Glad you don’t support an abhorrent regime there mate , just their golf tour

I’ll drop it now but we should be able to make political points with regards to LiV it is a state funded golf tour after all

If Sky Sports are happy to broadcast Newcastle United matches, then that nullifies any arguments about the Saudi human rights issues from a moralistic standpoint for me 👍

You might want to have a reread of your comment… for me, it reads that you have no problem with Saudi’s human rights issues. I’m fairly certain, I hope, that you don’t mean that but your post is very clumsy.

So because Sky broadcast the Premier League which is not state owned that means it’s ok for you to ignore the human rights issues

LIV golf is fully owned by the Saudi Regime - that allow is enough for many to vilify it

And many on here had the same criticism for when they bought Newcastle or the Boxing

I’m not ignoring the human rights issues am I - I’ve said they are abhorrent.

Liverpool get TV money that Sky generate from selling a product that includes a state owned football club.

Where do we draw the line?

Liverpool is not state owned by a regime with horrific human rights issues

Sky is not state owned

You can look for twists and turns and find some sort of in direct link to money from awful sources

LIV is a direct link - it’s fully owned by them

That’s the line very simply

Have no interest in anything that’s state owned

PIF shouldn’t have been allowed to buy Newcastle

LIV golf - fully backed by an abhorrent Saudi regime
PL Clubs may have current Saudi backed owners but clubs get bought and sold and so theymay not always be backed in the same way. LIV will always have Saudi money

Do you think Liverpool should refuse to host Newcastle United at Anfield? ?

I honestly don't know why you won't or can't hold your hands up and say you called it wrong on LIV Phil.

Here you are, still trying to explain why it's failing, when it's not failing - 3 year extension in Mexico today - building a course in Australia to host future secured LIV events. You're wrong, and have been all along, and until you admit that you were wrong, you'll carry on making yourself look silly.

Plea to the mods to change Liverpoolphil / arthurwedges name to LIVphil .. it would be outstanding

Dhd
Do you think Liverpool fans should boycott Newcastle United games, I take it you abstained from any fan participation in the league cup final?

Well he deleted his Liverpoolphil account as he didn't want to have Liv in his name anymore rumour has it so maybe 🤔

Again it’s not realistic situations or relevant

The fans aren’t their to go and watch Newcastle

They are there to support and watch Liverpool

When you watch a LIV - every single player is paid by Saudi , the event is hosted on money from Saudi

Some may not care about the source of the money and it’s clear the players don’t care

Saudi using PIF are looking at sport to IMO sportswashing

Boxing was prob the first
Golf

And next the World Cup

the Saudi regime is horrific been unfortunate to have worked out there a few times

But it’s not just sport - many will be ok taking the vast amounts of money on off - the PGAT would love the money as well

The ins and outs of the Saudi regime are beyond complicated and driven by religion, power and wealth

They have their fingers in everything , the same with China , UAE, Dubai and even the US aren’t clean

Could we just draw the line here please on the Saudi human rights, no one has said on this thread anywhere that they agree with the regime, we’ve been here before at least once and the same arguments go round in circles.
The Saudi’s will be involved in sport for the foreseeable and aren’t going anywhere soon.

Thanks Brian.
