LIV Golf

So he’s like 95% of professional golfers.
Could probably make that 97%. How many really break through and win a major or multiple titles and if they do how often is it years if not decades apart? Golf is a fickle and difficult sport even at that rarified level and to do it once is a great achievement but to do it more than once is very hard

Gooch is a victim of the fundamental problem with LIV - it just doesnt have the competition level to judge players no matter what they do in its tournaments. BdC, BK, JR are the only ones whose reputations can survive in it due to the really top positions they have in the game in majors and PGAT and over a period, not just a hot year. The rest are just in limbo. And I wouldn't make too much of the minor guys performances in majors, whether they win or miss the cut. 3 or 4 tournamnents a year is just too few a sample in golf to make any assessment of them.

He's 33 and never had a top 10 in a major.

He's maybe just not that good. 🤔

Again, your words not his (or indeed anyone else's).
How about you try making your point without embellishing it with untrue statements in order to ridicule someone you don't know?

. “Now to be here to, I think, consider myself one of the best in the world, it’s what I’ve been dreaming about since I was nine years old. “

And you have an issue with that? A top sports person with a positive mindset? It's part and parcel of professional sport.
Time to give your head a wobble methinks.

When did top 10 become an accomplishment, there is loads of good players never to finish in the top 10 and players you wouldn’t expect, have finished in the top 10, Im not sure it’s really a benchmark to be looking at.

It only validated it in Gooch's mind. The rest of the world gave him no credit for it. Correctly.

So to be clear... you're now saying that he didn't claim to be a legend; and that was something you just made up?
Well, I think we all knew that already.

He was claiming to be better than just good. I can't remember the full quote now.

I have nothing against Gooch. I'd like to see him challenging at the top of the big tournaments. He just isn't doing it.

The majors are used to judge the players in the strongest fields on the toughest set ups.
He is not performing if he only has 1 top 10 at the age of 33.

The facts speak for themselves.

Again the point is being missed

He proclaimed himself one of the best in the world and failed to live up to that when it come to the majors or big comps

It’s 18 months later and he entered majors and couldn’t even get a top 10

The whole “asterisk” if someone wins a major etc etc

So to be clear... you're now saying that he didn't claim to be a legend; and that was something you just made up?

“Legend in his own mind” - I guess you don’t understand the saying

not sure why some are getting so defensive

A player made a claim - laughable at the time and it’s been current shown to be right as he has disappeared into the ether

Yes you expect someone to have that mindset but what sets the best apart is actually going out there and proving they are one the best

And that’s the difference between those that get those big wins under their belt and win the big events or at the very least consistently challenge for them

And when you publicly make the claims you would expect them to back it up

Again, no he didn't - and you've literally just posted what he actually said!!!

Why are you persistently embellishing and corrupting the facts? Or do you really not understand the difference?
