PGA Tour 'closer to LIV Golf deal' after President Donald Trump intervention
The PGA Tour says it is "closer to a deal" with rival series LIV Golf after calling on US President Donald Trump to get involved.
@Mel Smooth are you going to JCB again this year?
There's no detail about what Trump actually said or did to "help" this situation![]()

That would be a new low if they had to get that meglomaniac to help.I can totally see Trump saying to them "If you don't do a deal this ain't going to end well"
Not sure if it was a masterstroke of forward thinking from Liv getting into bed with The Donald by taking events to his courses and cozying up to him or just lucky.
Either way they now have POTUS in their corner.
It's the Pro game of golf that needs his help..That would be a new low if they had to get that meglomaniac to help.
Be interesting to see the ITV figures by the time we get to JCB.More embarrassing viewing figures for LIV. If it was a pilot episode, it’d be sent to the glue factory.
I'm not sure if it will be that big a deal for them. Ultimately, it is cheap TV for ITV on minority channels. It fills nice gaps in their schedule for not much money. I'm not putting the boot in here, I think it's a good move and is free to air golf. It just isn't something that ITV have bet their house on and so won't be spending big chunks on marketing.Be interesting to see the ITV figures by the time we get to JCB.
Wonder if we will see many ads pushing it across the ITV network
This really. Are they doing anything more than offering the tour’s own pre-packaged production feed on ITVx and occasionally shoved into the odd gap in their lesser broadcast channels? In which case it’s nothing beyond what anyone can get already on YouTube anyway. Maybe for the JCB they might add some production?I'm not sure if it will be that big a deal for them. In addition to those who don't like the format or presentation there is -
The aftermath of the negative propaganda campaign in the early years
11th of September
And the patriotism - pgat is a US product, for a US audience, and for US players.
Heck, I may have felt something similar if we still had a recognisable European Tour.
So, will likely have to be a v long game in the USA for sizable traction.
Something I don't know about, has watching on the website or app been blocked in the US to push people to Fox?
Then again if so, probably many younger crowd would know how to bypass.
Ultimately interest needs to come from an individual, but here's an observation. The group were chatting about the move. BBC sport (for example) ran at least articles about the move. #The interest still doesn't seem to be there. I played in a four ball yesterday morning at my home club, none of the other 3 knew that Tom McKibben was playing and had made his debut on LIV. They didn't even know it was on. Yet a few weeks ago in same group we spoke about his potential move.
Smart business for bothThis really. The cost of the deal for ITV was likely zero or nearly that, so a very cheap punt to see if it gains any traction. A bet to nothing for them seems smart business u88iii8i8888ii88.
