Rory still seems to have the odd struggle to get a reasonable score when playing badly. If he had shot 75 yesterday rather than 80 he would still be in with a chance. Jack Nicklaus was one of the best at avoiding a tournament wrecking score. Probably why he not only won so many majors but also finished in the top five so often.

Thursday's round was a weird one. He struggled to hole out on greens he should know well. Usually in a bad round for him there's a double maybe even a treble in there which wrecks everything but bogey was his worst score on Thursday which goes back to his putter not working
 
Interesting..........I play both to a reasonable standard and I find both more or less the same. Okay, I might want to play a high shot to clear the trees or a low shot to cheat the wind. My HC cuts and rises have come equally from both types of courses. My best at Dunbar this year so far being 75....CSS72 and Royal Musselburgh 72 CSS 70. Both courses are worlds apart but really shouldn't be all that different to these top players.
