Is it fair that a ladies play from red and men white in the same competition?

They should play off the same tees

Why ? The SSS would still be different.

although it would slow play down at my place and many others I'd venture.
The white or yellows would have to be rated for the ladies and are probably too long for many to play sensibly.

Why not play off the red tees? Many clubs are having ratings for the men now. 4 or 5 out of 12 I have have done this year, as a result of requests mainly from senior sections.

But sss sorts that out as the handicaps are taken from the comp tees
Handicaps are calculated from all measured tees played by that player.
We play comps from the yellow, blue or white tees depending on the comp conditions.
The ladies play from the red or greens. The reds will be rated for the men next year.

Interesting, always found the opposite.

any evidence for this?

My impression when refereeing, is that women are slower in high level games but in club play they are faster. But I have seen no empirical evidence.
Certainly, if men intrude into spare times on 'Ladies Days' at my club, the ladies always complain about being held up.

Always a bone of contention with the ladies, especially when the men have had a 30 minute start.
I once refereed a Cams and Hunts [always be careful how you say that] 18 hole Ladies county final which finished on the 12th green after an hour and 10 mins play.

juniors about equal slowest.
.

Interesting comment. We find that at national and county level the juniors are round like rockets. Early start 'stationed' referees have often been caught out if they don't get to their stations early. But it may be that the younger or newer ones are a bit wary of the referees checking on them. PoP is prominent on the CoCs.

My friend was county president and introduced the Men's equivalent as "President of Hambs and..." - well you can guess the rest!!

Remember I'm a bit behind the times;)
Agree with your post at the top level, I was referring to club junior opens.
Juniors nearly always react well to a slow play warning, not always the case for the older male golfers who usually have a well rehearsed excuse.
I once managed to get over 700 juniors around three courses averaging less than 4 hour rounds......that was a busy day.

Yes indeed... overseas I am increasingly seeing "just tees" without a specific label of mens' or womens'. The inference is that you play off tees appropriate to your handicap in general play...how they set up in mixed comps would be interesting

Pretty well everywhere now all tees are rated for both genders. There are many comps where all players can in effect choose the tees to play off. The handicap system make the appropriate allowances.

I've come to this a bit late I know but... I'm in the camp of don't play mixed comps. At my club it's a historical fact that every time a mixed comp takes place the men's white tees are scattered about as per normal but the ladies red tees are always within inches of the front of the tee box. Worse still, the afternoon prior to the last such comp me and am ate were at a loose end so played nine holes. We saw the ranger moving white tees further back. Was simply funny until standing on the first tee meeting the ladies we were about to play and one of the ladies says "That's my husband!"

Personally I want nothing more to do with mixed comps. I'll be captain in a couple of years and will have nothing to do with it. If anyone else wants to arrange it they can. won't be me though.

Will you be club captain or men's captain ?

Sorry I'm struggling to see what the issue is ?

Your greenkeeprs put the white tee markers to the white stones ?

And then the red markers to the red stones ?

I can't see the problem or the issue - what's wrong with putting the white tees to the back ? That's where your handicap is measured from.

Last year i made every single Medal and Stableford at weekends open to all - the Men's played from the whites and the ladies from the Reds - with the shot difference due to SSS being applied. Thankfully your attitude isn't displayed within the club.

It makes no difference to your game where a lady tees off - anyone focussing on that is looking to get the excuses in early
