Ladies in the comps

here is a simple suggestion, women can play in men's comps when they pay the full mens green fee i have never understood why women pay a fraction of what men pay, they play the same course use the same club house etc etc so in this age of equality they should pay the same.
Most clubs charge 7 day women the same as 7 day men.
5 day members of either sex pay less.

I suspect your club still charges different fees as it is stuck in the 1950s, along with your attitude

Just a heads up on our mini open week that we just had wit some mixed comps , different tees

comp 1

Winner .. Lady Visitor playing off 29 with a score of 39 pts...
R up .. Man playing off 15 with a score of 40 pts..

14 shots , red tees , 1 point less wins ??

Comp 2

Winner on a count back .. lady playing off 35 with 40 pts
R Up Man playing off (14 i think , not sure ) 42pts

aprox 21 shots, red tees , 2 points less wins ??

Dont for a second understand this , it involves a CONGU rule .. i was not the man in either case by the way , so now, ye tell me ye'r thoughts on this , fair ? not fair ?

And just to emphasise , i have no problem playing alongside Ladies , my point is if your in the same comp you play off the same tees & same rules apply for all & the best score wins ..

It's nett right? Check the SSS for the relevant competition tees. It's all been said and explained before.

I have just read the CONGU rules on mixed events, its a bit confusing with different rules for medal play and stableford.

Agreed it's confusing but would argue it's fair as it's relative to the course Par, Standard Scratch and Player's Handicap in all instances.

In the end those who feel playing off the Reds is an unfair advantage always will regardless of the usual stated fact that it's where a player's handicap is based upon.

Could be that the scores mentioned for the ladies are the scores for handicap purposes and that their scores for competition results were higher due to the difference in SSS between whites and reds.

At least these clubs are allowing ladies and juniors to play in the comps. At Lymm Golf Club it seems that ladies and junior girls (despite equal fees between men and ladies) are not allowed to play in the weekend comps. All very well for the retired ladies who can play midweek, but what about the professionals who work during the week, and juniors who study? It never seemed to be a problem down in Leicestershire, why does Cheshire have a problem? The club moans it doesn't have enough junior girls, but why would they come if they can't play in the comps??

strange - so a quick check on the competitions for the next week show that there are Ladies competitions on the 2nd, 4th and 6th April, and a Junior one on the 2nd as well. Presumably this is just a fluke and not representative?

Would be interested to know which club(s) in Leicestershire are playing integrated comps. My understanding is that the vast majority still run separate mens' & womens' competitions.

If you go into the pro shop and you are informed the comp allows everyone to play then before you pay your entry fee you are aware that anyone can win the comp. If you pay in then you have to accept that. No good crying over it later.

indeed - we are integrated with regard to playing in the majority of comps ie everyone plays together (inc weekends), but with a few exceptions the competitions themselves are segregated (because that's the way everyone seems to want it!). Ladies are welcome in the club/pro organised swindles both midweek and weekends.

Why play of different tees, all handicaps should be taken off the same tees . At my age it would suit me just fine playing of the reds , with some nice ladies of course.

I'm a girl and I think this attitude towards women is so macho. Men always say they're that much stronger, powerful than us, women. But then when you're not able to show that you're a man, you want to put women in a more difficult situation just to be sure you can beat her. Utterly disgusting.

A simple solution for all this sexism: At the 2 clubs I play at (in Belgium), prizes are given separately to women and to men. 3 for each sex in each category. I'm sure that would solve some problems. And for the longest drive, we have two prizes, one for women, one for men. I think this system is so much better and avoids pointless discussions.

When are English golf clubs finally going to change a little...? Women and men just can't seem to have their place TOGETHER on the course and in the clubhouse. It's such a shame...

The bloke with 42 points would have been whining about a bandit if it'd been a man scoring 43 points. I'd be more than happy to tee my ball up in a comp along side women golfers AND I'd be more worried about my game than worrying who might win.

If a lady walked off with the prize then she played well enough on the day and all credit to her for so doing.

Men who can't live with this really need to find a cave, crawl into it and never come back out!
