Good Morning :)

Going to a gig in Halifax (W.Yorks) mid week in early August. Figured i'd travel down and stay the night before and try to get a morning round in. Staying in Brighouse just off the M62 Leeds/Bradford.

Did a google search and the Halifax courses all seemed to be very hit and miss as far as reviews... The Manor was majoritively positive. Cant find any real mention of it on here.

Any reviews or other recommmendations greatly appreciated.

No official handicap but i would say high but fast improving.
Not too worried about cost and anywhere with 30 mins drive of the Days Inn Brighouse.

Prefer somwhere in good condition, a good variety of hole layout, scenic and bonus points if they do good food breakfast + lunch

I would say that The Manor is OK, without being outstanding. If it's a nice day, I would choose Halifax Golf Club at Ogden, for a good walk, outstanding views, and a very good (and demanding) course.
I was told at the weekend that Halifax Bradley Hall is an excellent course, but he was a scratch golfer, may be quite tough.
The one aspect of The Manor that I remember is the driving range to the right of the 10th fairway. There were a lot of stray balls there, so you had a job on to identify your own. Things may have changed, it's a while since I played there.

Ogden is the one of the best courses in the Halifax/Brighouse area - particularly for vfm.

I was up there on Sunday walking round and it was in excellent condition. It IS tough in places though with carries over moorland cabbage.

The nearest course to your hotel is Willow Valley Golf Club. Choice of 3 courses, easy par 3 9 hole, easy 18 hole, tough 18 hole.
You can walk it in two minutes from your hotel, straight out of the service road on the service station.
Cleckheaton is 2 or 3 minutes by car, that’s generally well presented.

If you want to play the best course and dont mind parting with a 100 quid - Huddersfield Golf Club is also only about 15 minutes away.,

To add. Willow Valley is £20 quid for a twilight green fee if you have time for a round on the evening you arrive, and I’m playing The Manor next Friday, so can give you an up to date review following that.

Thank you... i would really appreciate that.

Will have a look through your suggestions. Wont have time for a twilight game... but mo reason i couldnt extend my stay if their are courses i want to play.

I’ve played a course in Bradford , it sounds like it could be the Manor . It had a pretty large hotel attached to it ( old Manor House) . Also I think they used it on the Trilby tour event .

Howley Hall is fairly local and is a great course.

Out of Howley, Cleakheaton, Willow and Manor I'd put Manor last in that list. The hole down the side of the driving range really kills the course for me plus a couple of other poor holes. I'd play Cleakheaton personally, really like the course and it should be in great condition.

I’ve been to Cleck dozens of times, the youth has lessons there with Lee Shepherd - but I’ve never played it.

Looks a good club though, decent people there snd all that (y)

I've played all of them and I'd put Cleckheaton top. Not exceptional but good.

Just back from playing.

Course was in good condition, greens very receptive and true. Some nice holes but a few too many blind shots for my liking..
A lot of the holes felt like doglegs through a dip, it’s a tight course so you use the driver at your own risk. It was in better condition than my club (Willow Valley) but the layout isn’t as good.
Clubhouse is great, food was good…

I’d play it again, but am not in any rush to do so.
