Ladies in the comps

lol this was the point of the SGM because equality laws associate membership is offered to both male or female. so to discourage males moving to associate membership and to i think 70% fees and to red tees. as far as i know only a handfull went to associate, but that may change as fees are due end of april

What you are saying is that your club has decided to continue to provide cheaper subs to Ladies by creating a special category of mambership as a workaround of the Equality law(s) - and whatever majority was required to approve that approach did so at the SGM - quite possibly somewhat 'stacked' with Ladies. It seems to me that any issue you have with this should be taken up with your club!

Did you mean to spell membership that way ?.

At my club the SSS for men is 70 and 72 for ladies. The ladies have some par 5's on holes that are long par 4's for men. In combined competitions the stroke index is taken from the mens card and the ladies have two strokes added before any stroke deductions are made (7/8 - 3/4 etc). I do find it hard sometimes to reconcile in some mixed comps when ladies play off red tees and men play off whites, as to yellows (seniors included) Irrespective of handicap. It's not a matter of sss but the ability of seniors and some men on higher handicaps to play effectively from some of the white tees that are set on the tips and can add up to 100 yards and a high difficulty level. I once played in a board comp that was won by a junior with a handicap of 54 who was playing off red tees, it made a bit of a mockery when some good scores were returned by some cat 1 & 2 players.

So, is the reason that some clubs don't run mixed competitions purely because it's too complicated for certain minds to work out? Genuine question (maybe a little flippant).

There's also an argument that they are 2 different competitions on 2 different courses, so should be kept separate. The document adjustment only indicates what you actually need to do when you do combine them.

I've played and managed such comps and it works out reasonably well.

On the subject of mixed comps, I'm not a huge fan of the 'standard' method of playing mixed match-play though. Rather than using Men's card and adjusting as per equity, I'd sooner each course was played against its (equity adjusted) card. That would eliminate the anomolies where the Stroke Indexes or Par of the same hole on the different courses were vastly different (normally on Par 3s where Men's may be over 200 and Ladies 125. I know that there's compensation somewhere around the course, but it seems less distorted this way.

I've never really understood why the ladies only get one set of tees to play from for both bounce games and competitions.
Surely it would be better if there was two sets of ladies tees, one for general play and one for comps.
Usually because there are fewer ladies than men and the number of ladies using a course is not enough to wear out the competition tees.
