Just thought I'd mention this.
Been having real issues with fairway woods and driver, snap hooks galore. Changed one little thing with my right hand grip and BANG straight as you like!

I couldn't believe it, I had tried loads of different things and it all came down to grip, just goes to prove that if the fundamentals are right then the rest will follow.

Must admit if things dont feel right in my swing first thing i check is grip. Ive a strong left hand grip but sometimes to strong resulting in pulls. As a Bristolian myself where do you play?

I have learned very quickly that if something is wrong with grip or posture, everything goes to pot. I see it now like the foundations of a house. Bad or wonky foundations, the house will collapse. A lot like me on the back 9 at times!!!

It's like driving a car, you start with hands at ten to two, mirror signal manoeuvre, patience blah blah then bad habits, posture, shortcuts, impatience all sets in.

Same with the golf swing, fundamentals are key IMO. I've struggled for 4 seasons, still struggling but for the last 3 weeks and more recently with the exceptional help of a forummer I've gone back to basic posture fundamentals which feel totally alien but provide all the correct sequencing, now to believe and practice.

When I had my first lesson several years ago after suffering from the dreaded shanks, (like many I'd played without lessons), the pro told me my grip that was far too strong and that if I had any aspirations to get down to low handicap I needed to go back to basics and start with a neutral grip.

It felt totally wrong and totally changed the mechanics of my swing and what followed was possibly the most frustrating 6 months golf I have had. I tried going back to my old grip but because I'd tried to persevere with a neutral grip it felt wrong and to make it worse I had a brain worm which added to the frustration.

After a while the grip and swing started to feel much more natural and things started to click into place. The only issue I had is that my lovely draw that I used to play with had with the new found grip had turned into a very moderate fade.

When I changed clubs and had a lesson with a new pro, I enquired about the fade and he told me to hit a few balls and then asked what was the problem was. I told him the ball was going right of target however he told me they were going exactly where I was aiming.

I thought I was set up square to target however he corrected me by telling me that many players who wear glasses, especially if they have a stigmatism, have a parallex error. He placed a tee three foot in front of the ball and told me to line up parallel to the ball to tee path. Every ball I hit went straight down the line. By picking a target in front of the ball the problem was solved.

Simple errors most of us make but easily fixed by going back to basics.

I had the same experience as the OP. Struggled with consistency recently, and poor dispersion. Thought I was checking my grip and it was ok, but in reality was only checking my left hand. Found something online which made me realise my right hand grip was completely wrong. Needed to get the lifeline of my right hand on top of my left thumb. Made and immediate difference to quality of strike, direction and distance. Amazing really!
