I had a little trip to American Golf today…£140 worth of vouchers in my pocket, ready to buy a 3wood…

I was not impressed to say the least. They wouldn't leave me alone at all! I then tried the club…

Club went well, however it was from here that things left me dismayed. Machine broken, almost nigh on impossible to tell how it went apart from feel! So, I then asked a few questions…

The guy had no idea about anything whatsoever, apparently there is pretty much no difference between different shafts… Then I asked what the difference was between the 910f and 910fd… apparently more club head speed…! :o

I honestly came out of there feeling like a complete idiot…! :(

Seriously I wish the vouchers were cash, then I would go and take my custom elsewhere, and from now on will do that!

Just do your research first, walk in and buy, walk out without speaking to these idiots.

I know that is what I normally do… but I just wanted to see what they were like up here. For some misguided reason I thought they might know what they were talking about up here!

Trouble was I had no idea what I wanted, and I went to get a better understanding.

and why cant you sell those!? excuse my ignorance!

I did not know this! still whats to stop you selling them , why would they ask your name whilst buying a product!?

also do American golf have the full range of shafts avail for say Mizuno,Ping or Titleist ?

Why not pay for a fit elsewhere and then purchase from AG.

I am thinking of doing this, am hitting the range with my new 910d3 tomorrow so might see if I can try some out there.

Well, they might ask to see the club card, and so the vouchers are of no use to anyone else. They are meant to be non-transferrable. And no usually they don't have all the shafts, they might have a selection of 2 or 3 stock shafts, but in fact they only had the 1 shaft in anyway when I went.

I'm not surprised by this. AG staff do seem poorly trained on even the basic product awareness and it makes buying any club a lottery unless you have an idea what you are looking for and are prepared to stick to your guns and not let them fob you off on one of their four "stock" ranges.

The only thing I'd consider getting in AG would be clothes. £150 would go a long way towards a decent set of waterproofs for example or a pair of shoes

Actually I don't know why but I hadn't thought about clothes etc.

As for the shafts, if I ended up being fitted for a non-stock shaft, could I ask them to order a specific shaft in?

Sorry to veer off track slightly but are AG staff trained pro's or not. Are the regular staff required to be PGA or even EGF (?) or are they just sales folk?
