I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Cross-Country Scramble at my place today. If you've not heard of it, it basically means they make up new holes to play, e.g. 1st tee to 18th green, 17th tee to 1st green, 2nd tee to 3rd green, etc. End up with some very long holes and hitting it over trees and whatnot.

My and my member mate had two guests with us: another mate plus my cousin who's off 22. I got us off to a great start with my own birdie on the first hole (par 3). We played well overall but it was tough when one of the rules was having to use at least two tee shots from each player when it was only a 9 hole event. I think my cousin was feeling the pressure a little when we hadn't been able to use any of his in the first 5 holes. After that he managed to hit passable drives on the next two holes though. Unfortunately one of them brought us our first bogey, albeit on a 460 yard 'par 4' as we were a bit far back and slightly blocked out.

When we got to the last hole we hadn't been able to get two in from my member mate, so he had to tee off the last on his own, and didn't hit the greatest drive although it was in play. In the end our par putt lipped out (twice) so we had to settle for a second bogey. We'd managed 4 birdies though so two under gross, minus the 9 team handicap (although I think that meant 4.5 off since it was 9 holes..).

Not sure where we finished as the whole leaderboard wasn't released, we weren't in the top three, but I don't think we could've been far off. And really there was probably only 2 shots you could say we left out there. Really enjoyable day followed by pizza as part of your entrance fee. 👍🏻

Played today as one of the lads needed a card to get his HI so I chucked in a GP one as well, played so well was like the old days before I gave up.

Ended up shooting +5, 76 Gross. But I left so much out there, Course management was on point only hitting driver twice on the opening 9. -1 through 7 holes, but missed birdie putts at 1,2,5,6,7 & 9! Only dropped a shot at the 8th due my approach shot landing on a sprinkler making it take and almighty bounce and ending up giving me an unplayable through the back of the green.

Back 9 hit the ball just as well as one the front but got 3 bad breaks that led to the score not matching the play. 10th hole bombed a drive dead straight, ended up running out of room through the fairway and nestled behind a tree so had to play sideways! So +1!

14th hole hit 4 iron for position but misjudged the distance should’ve hit a 6iron as just like the 10th bounded through the fairway but this time into a bush! So unplayable and double bogey ensued so +3! 15th Great drive and absolutely nailed my approach shot from 190, turns out 5iron was to much didn’t hold the green and ended up down the bank at the back for a bogey +4!

18th hole downhill tee shot, 5 Wood dead centre of fair leaving just a small Gap wedge to the raised green. I got greedy and went at the flag, ball hit the green with a little spin but just caught the false front and came back down the slope about 50yards 😳. Ended up bogeying the last to finish +5, without ever really hitting a bad shot. I missed birdie puts on 11, 12, 13, 16 & 17.

Only birdie all day was on the 3rd! Overall 1/12 birdie chances converted, and those dropped shots would’ve been avoided had I just been a little smarter with maybe the exception of 2 of them. Overall that’s the best I’ve played since I returned to the game, if I can keep the swing working that way and get the putts to drop the numbers could be very good once again.

Even the group in front who were painfully slow couldn’t annoy me today 😂

a month or so ago my partner and I won a Manchester and District past captains competition with 44 points, there was a 2nd competition also won with 44 points, we have just had the play off between the 2 winners for a very nice trophy, we went out separately with markers, we started well had a few hiccup in the middle but finished well we only score 36 points, turned out the other pair had only managed 35 so we were delighted to have won. We finished the day with a nice buffet and it turned out a free bar. (shame we were driving)

Stableford Trophy yesterday - which I won last year. Got off to a good start with 6 points in the first two holes, and finished strongly with 15 points in the last 6. The fact that I picked up 21 of my 30 points total on just 8 holes tells it's own story.

Simply not played enough the last month due to work and then going on holiday - and it's affected my game badly.

Very enjoyable open at South Chesterfield GC yesterday. It was very friendly and welcoming and the greens were in very good nick - certainly much better than you'd expect for an entry fee of £15 pp! It was stableford, best two from four and we came second with 90 points. We had 49 pts at the turn then the wheels started wobbling, but thankfully they didn't come off!

Day off today and played at Hazlemere - a very hilly and slopey course that I hadn't played in five years or so. Very enjoyable course though where no two holes are the same. However, with it being 28 degrees and the fairways dry as a bone it might not have been the best day to play there. 😆

I had a good front nine - lovely birdie on the par 5 2nd followed by three pars - made a mess of the tee shot on the 6th resulting in a double. Ended the front nine three over par for 21 points.

Played the 10th awfully (sliced tee shot and knifed chip as well) for a double/blob, and a 1 point bogey on the par 3 11th brought me back to level handicap. Was making a mess of the 12th too, until I somehow chipped in from 35 yards to save par! This game, man. 😂 That sorted my head out and got me back on track, although, due to the heat making it hard to concentrate I had a couple of bad misreads on the greens after that, resulting in two bogeys that should have been pars. Followed that with three straight pars though and a bogey on the last.

Six over back nine for 19 points, resulting in 79 gross and 40 points in total. Lovely! And I put a card in too - so much for not getting cut again before H4H (oops), but that should see me to 12.5 or 12.4 now. 😬

Undoubtedly the best spell of consistently good golf I've ever had.

Second visit within a week to Fleetwood today, this time in a Lancashire Senior ladies competition, unlike last week, the wind was light, I played pretty well with 7 pars and a birdie, still a couple of holes where I three putted but overall I was pleased with my game.

Played at Sundrige Park today.
Just a friendly match play.
Finished all square and my mate went round in 6 under.
Lovely day to be out enjoying the sunshine and watching some great golf.
I worked out 34 points with some generous gimmies

After Formby yesterday it was Doncaster Golf Club for Jamie today - Yorkshire Boys under 16's - he finished a credible 9th place. Lad looked a bit annoyed when he walked off the course but once he'd studied the leader board and realised he'd held his own against some lads with a year of development on him, he realised he'd had a pretty solid day.

Played a works society competition today at Tall Pines, next to Bristol Airport - and by next to, I really mean next to. Hole 5 is up against the perimeter of the course and the taxi way is about 20 yards over the fence, waiting for a hooked drive. One of our playing group did just this shot and we are sure it ended up on the airfield.
From a golf point of view, it was a nice course but all players suffered from dodgy bounces which always ended up in the trees. Talking of trees, most of the par 3s had trees right before the greens which made for interesting tee shots.
I had an ok front with 17 points, but played really well on back nine for 24 points including a birdie 4 for 4 points. 43 won but came 2nd and will get 3rd cut in 4 rounds.😎

Was 2 over after 8 holes on the nine hole par 3 course I play. Great weather, having a grand old morning. Even chipped in on the 7th which was awesome.

Would have been absolutely extatic with a bogey or better on the 195 yard 9th. I can’t hit the green with the 4 iron, but I thought “I’m playing well. The swing is good. Let’s smash the hell out of it and try get to the green.”

First one went left, lost. Second went right, lost. 😂 Didn’t bother counting that hole! Dropped a ball and hit it straight into a tree. Golf eh!!! Still had an awesome day any way. 🙂

Played this evening, weather was beautiful. There was a Seniors Open and a ladies club match out earlier today so even although we teed off at 16:36 it was painfully slow for the first 6 holes. 90 minutes for those 6 and we were wondering if we were even going to get finished before dark. Luckily pace improved and we finished the round in about 3:50.

I didn’t play great but scored well. Shot a 4 over 76 for another counting score and assuming the PCC isn’t messed up with all the open bandits (they were off the yellows, we were off the whites but don’t know if that makes a difference) it should be another 0.1 cut.

As for the Seniors Open, it was 4bbb and 51 points won it. Top 10 were all 45 points or better.

PCC of +1 thanks to all the bandits means I don’t get a cut and not a counting score. ☹️

edit: PCC of -1, numbers are hard.

Did you mean minus 1? If PCC was +1 your score would be better wouldn't it?

PCC went to minus 1 for my round on Monday - just a random Monday. God knows who else was playing there and putting cards in that day. I still got cut but probably would've been slightly lower even.

I played at Worksop yesterday in an England golf Captains event, I had what is sadly becoming my usual round, great from tee to near green but the appalling 31pts but took 4 from close close to the green on far too many occasions thanks to duff chips and 3 putting, my low spot was missing from 6 inches on one hole.

The course is a very nice layout with a lot of variety but I have never played one that as suffered so much from the dry weather, although the greens were nice, the approaches in particular were practically bare on a lot of holes, which did not help my chipping.

Aye, -1. I can see why, it was a beautiful day, hardly any wind, ball was going miles and the greens are still quite long and slow so the ball stops on them. The rough this year is nowhere near as thick as last year, it's still thick in places and I found the thick places 4 times as my driving was off the planet left on nearly every hole. Luckily you can hit it miles left on nearly every hole at my place and still have a shot, it's right that's OB on 12 holes and in the bundai on 3 others. I didn't want to tinker with my driving though as everything was coming out the middle, just 50 yards left of where I thought I was aiming. I didn't want to adjust aiming miles right as 50 yards left and in play is much better than 3 off the tee.
