4BBB comp today, playing with a lad who is fairly new to the game and he was getting 24 shots. We had 42 points but didn’t dovetail well as we had 4 1 pointers.
Thought we both scored on 9 holes but the computer had other ideas and kept marking my partners scores in green for holes we tied on (eg I had a 4 for 2, he had a 5 for 2 and it gave him the counting hole). No cut for me, I shot 76 which would have been a counting score but I can see from England Golf my partner has a score entered so he’s getting the cut for both of us I guess.
Greens got tined during the week so they were quite long. I holed nothing all day but can’t really blame the greens as I couldn’t start anything on line. First real bad round with the new putter, will be getting the mat out this week.
I played in the August medal today and also in the matchplay at the same time, which made for an interesting day out. The reward for winning the match was a place on the quarter finals so I wanted to prioritise that, and if I ended up NRing in the medal then so be it. We decided we'd do gimmies for the match but still putt out for the medal.
Anyway, I was giving my opponent 9 shots. The indexes at my course mean that a lot of the shots come around in the middle, the 7th to 13th range, so I knew I had to be up by then to have a chance. And up I was, 5 up through 6 to be precise, and I was 1 under gross through 7 (playing off 11). I finished the front 9 with two bogeys to finish +1 gross for the front and I was 4 up.
That lead proved to be unassailable, hands shaking on the 15th for a 5&3 win. Opponent left a couple of putts short which could have meant I was only 1-up after 13 but instead I was 3 up at that point.
From a medal point of view, I shot a nett 70, which is T2 (4th on countback). It was the best round I've ever shot (gross 81) - still on the hunt for breaking 80, but I had two triples on the card. The first on the 12th, where I lost a ball in the middle of the fairway off the tee, so had to go back. The other was on the 16th, where I hit really my only bad shot of the day, a big pull into the trees and took two to get out after hitting a log.
It's a weird feeling to win comfortably and shoot a PB and still be a bit frustrated knowing it could have been 4 or 5 shots better, but overall I'm delighted.
In the quarter finals I'm playing against my pairs partner, so that'll be a laugh.
The medal score will see me cut by about 0.7, 0.8 shots so I should be single figures in the morning for the first time
Managed a gross 80 yesterday (46pts) - which I think is my second best ever round my home course (possibly the best). Certainly it is the best for at least 3 years. Hopefully it is further indication that my run of terrible form (lasting about 18 months) could be over.
Fortunately, I was doing a General Play card so a good cut ensued - down by 2.7 shots to 17.3 (and now halfway back to my lowest ever of 13.6). Downside is that 6 of my last 7 rounds are 'counting rounds', so gawd knows what's likely to start happening in 14 rounds time ...
Getting a bit cheesed off with this getting cut malarkey....
Shot 77 gross for 36 points and, unless PCC has a say, another 0.2 down to 4.7...now only 0.4 from my best ever.
It's becoming hard work again....
At least Fragger got a decent cut too but still gets a million shots
Played a Vet's comp today away and absolutely chopped it, it was bloody cold top temp was 14 and no way did it get to that.......
only 6 weeks and i"m in Thailand....yeah.
Played 9 today, was intending to get out early before the weather turned. But last night was a bit rough with the wife in some discomfort from her arm ( not sure why this is and it’s not cancer).
Anyway back to the point, wind was swirling and rain was light but intermittent, but the pump drill definitely helped my iron play. Last hole was a bit of a disaster being a double bogey but it’s up hill into the wind playing 450yards par 4 .. I had settled for a bogey being a good score but really didn’t help my course off the tee and then my 3rd to the green the wedge slipped under the ball and didn’t get the full benefit. But hey ho not a bad effort to given I was playing off the competition tees.
Played 12 holes on Saturday night after work. Everything just clicked, driver finding the fairway with a nice draw. Puring my irons like never before even my putting was good. Hopefully it wasn't my one and only round like that, desperate to get back out and see if it was a fluke.
Just got back from playing The Chase in Cannock off the whites. First time playing there only charged me £27 which is usually the county card price so that was a good start. The course was in great nick with some nice holes and a cracking range set up with trackman.
Absolute mixed bag blocked so many shots, driver was going short and right for the first 7 holes! Slowed the swing and focused on maintaining spine angle through the whole swing (it’s always been my flaw to gain to much height in my back swing when playing badly) and voila 8-16 Driver going high and straight with a nice natural little cut. Had to fight with the irons today though tempo just felt to snappy. Then 17 & 18 felt like the tank was empty, just steered the ball home over those holes..
Main issue today was feeling really fatigued, my own fault though as had a heavy gym session at 6am this morning as a well as a pretty taxing circuit session at work mid morning. So the nervous system was lacking, but overall despite a mixed bag knocked it round in 80 swipes for a nett 73. Course rating is 72.9 so overall nothing to grumble about and keeps a decent score towards my HI.
A distinctly average 33 points this morning......
And, as a good score has dropped out of my 20, the index is going up 0.6....
See Golf Irritations.......

Went out for a practice with my mate. Whole course on temp greens due to maintenance, so holes were shorter but then putting a lottery obviously. Struck the ball well though and managed 24 points over 11 holes. One birdie, six pars (including five in a row from the 2nd to the 6th), but one double. Decent.
Some cracking prizes on offer on the par 3’s for anybody making a hole in one.
3 grand on the first par 3, QI 35 drivers on the 2nd and last, but the main event was a 55 grand speedboat on the 16th hole. Needless to say, I missed the green.
Uttoxeter today. Only 2nd time I’ve played it again a huge mixed bag couldn’t string 3 good shots in a row together.
Swing was all over the place and needs a lot of work to find consistency. Scabbed it round the first 4 holes, then at the short Par 5 5th hole was on the green with Driver and wedge for a nice easy birdie, then scabbed it round again 6-8th. The round carried on like that all the way round, some absolute bombed drives followed by a woeful approach. Managed to birdie the 16th then slapped it again up 17 & 18. Finished 2 over my HI but that was more luck than scrambling it was terrible.
I haven't really had lessons or altered anything in my swing that I know of, but I have found a rich vein of form lately. Today I completed an 8 round run of having one of my best scores. To that effect, I now have 12 'freebies' before I can go up again. End of June I was 10.6. Tomorrow I go to 6.7.
