I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Just try for your best gross score - forget about how many strokes. Works for me.
I normally do.
I have arthritis and a cyst in my wrist.
So this season is going to be a struggle.
I fully expect to hit the hard cap in the next few weeks as I’m losing five of my best scores.

I might be dangerous off 12 but the way I’m playing and how much it hurts this could well be my last year playing.
Unless my doctor turns into a magician

I took the "Hammy" putter out for the first time today.

I wasn't expecting much as it's an onset face and is the opposite to current Zero Torque thinking; full on toe hang blade and all the weight behind the ball.

29 putts and 38 points to win the roll up, +2 gross on the back 9.

Where's that Zero Torque thread? :)

Had the pleasure of @need_my_wedge's company on The Castle Course at St. Andrews.
The weather was astounding (by Scottish standards) and the course was in tip top shape having only been off mats for a day.
The greens are really tricky and miss in the wrong spot and a four putt isn't out of the question (we avoided such a fate thankfully!).
And Need_my_wedge certainly needed his wedge on occasion - but always got out!Screenshot_20250402_201053_Photos.jpg

Was a fun day Simon…. Really enjoyed it, hard not to on a day like today.

Edit:

Need to mention the Haggis & sausage rolls in despatches, top notch nose bag.

Played 9 holes tonight as it was parents evening so missed the tee off time with my playing partners. I played 1,2,3,11 and caught up to them coming down 13 so played 14 in.

Hit it much better, putted better and was +1 for the 9 holes.

Afterwards they all went straight off to watch the football so I had a very productive 45 minutes on the putting green. Hoping I’ve found something that might help.

Shot 6 over today on my second home club off a 2 handicap, it is a lot harder then the other course where I am off 3.

Bad news is I have my best 8 scores in my top 12.....so 9 rounds before I can go out, not good for a Sandbagger.

First proper comp of the year yesterday.

Triple whammy - winter course now closed, so tees have moved back, 2 shot reduction in handicap kicked in after course being re-rated last year, and greens tined this week, so putting a lottery.

Played ok, but putting was awful. 27 points disappointing, but at least I got a 2, so not a total wipeout 😳

After a few rounds of angst normality has been restored......
Glorious morning, quiet course, loads of run.....
36 points, 77 blows and a cut back to 5.8...
And that included a blob and 4 or 5 putts that lipped out...
That's better...

Got out yesterday evening with a friend whom I haven't seen since November as he doesn't really play much through the winter. Beautiful evening. A little breezy which allowed me to test my driver lofted down to 9 degrees, which I somehow remembered to do before we started!

First tee shot was bad, having just got straight out of the car, but other than that the experiment was a success and one I will continue with. Striking my irons MUCH much better, getting more confidence back with them. Shot 18 points for those 9 holes (I think) including a blob, and beat my mate one-up down the last. Happy days :D

Played on a reciprocal at The Worcestershire today. Well worth the hour drive. Great mix of holes, views of the Malvern Hills, nice folk around the place too.

Great fun.

Yeah its a nice track that! Very different to everything else around here and as you mention - cracking views!

Wow, who would have thought adjusting your driver loft would make you strike your irons better? Crazy game.

Absolutely sucked today.....maybe even worse than that. I was going to kill off tomorrows rollup time.....but with the quirky way of evil hell, I'm likely to play well tomorrow so......
