I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

This week has proven what a stupid game it is we play........
On Monday I barely hit a decent shot and magiced 31 points from somewhere....
Today....it was a breeze. Almost total control.
1 over gross on either 9, 73 shots and 41 points in total....
After Monday I went up from 6.1 to 7.0......now coming straight back down to 6.1.....
God I love/hate this game.... :ROFLMAO:

77 today in bright conditions. The Scotty performed well and the course is looking in great condition upto now, it'll be even better once the warm weather arrives.

Played 14 holes tonight and once again I hit my irons really well. Driving was poor, as was putting. Think I was +4 for the holes.

Course is starting to dry out a lot, already seeing lots of yellow grass with hard pan underneath. Also had about a 3 club wind tonight which was making downwind shots really tough. First stableford of the year on Saturday, should be interesting.

And to be honest it was a bit of the Good , bad and the Ugly.
My driving on the first four holes was gorgeous with a bit of draw. Which kinda screws you up when you start left of centre expecting it to fade. 😖
The scoring was not that fantastic in a pairs comp but the back nine was far better. Stood on the 18th par five and smoked my drive. That was followed with a lovely 3 wood which left me 180 to the back pin. I smoked a five wood and for the first time ever I was on the green in three. Pin high with a 25 footer. I only went and dropped it in for a birdie and 4 4 4.
I went ballistic dropped on the floor and did half a push up. I got down but couldn’t get up.

Stableford early on and it was not fun out there today. 40mph winds and, at times, horizontal rain.

The 1st is 135y, normally hit a soft 9i in to it. Full 6i today and still came up short.

Where it became crosswind it was just unplayable. 29 points, 4 NR holes and total carnage.

Four club challenge today.
I went with different shaft materials:
Mizuno White Fang 3 wood, graphite shaft, late 1980s
Craigton Golf Craig Royal 5 iron, aluminium shaft, circa 1970
Slazenger STM 8 iron, steel shaft, late 1950s
Spalding W Model putter, hickory shaft, circa 1930.

I was never going to score well and couldn't get off the bogey train on the front nine, 8 bogeys and a double for 13 points.
More mixed on the back nine, 5 pars and 2 blobs for 17 points.

Shot 3 over par for 36 points, no where near the winner 43 points off a 30 handicap, 42 points off 21 handicap and so forth, but I did make top 10.....so am extremely happy :ROFLMAO:

Standing on the 14th tee this morning I didn’t want to play golf anymore. 😂 Somehow managed to play the last 5 in +1 to make sure I broke 90 with a solid 87.

First comp of the year, blowing 30mph, greens cut and rolled and already feeling like putting on marble. No excuses though, playing partner shot +1.

Ouch. Always next time 😀

Finished 18th out of 43 today in the Greensomes, should of been so much better, I played superb but my partner not so much 🤣🤣
Really enjoyed it though in tough conditions 😀

First 5 holes yesterday I played like a dream. Effortless swing, great connections, lovely shot shape. As good as I can play. Then........stood on the 6th tee I started to think about why it was going well, what was I doing with my swing 🤦‍♂️. Why, why 😱. The smoothness went, the swing became mechanical and the connections became more erratic. Deep sigh........I recovered by the 12th and ended with 35 points but never quite regained the heady heights of those first 5 holes 😔. Silly game.

90% mental 10% skill.
Just when we think we have it we havnt.😉

Played in the rollup yesterday morning....went to my old ER2 putter to try to break out of the putting funk. I made some good putts, but the ball just won't....go....in. Just about when I was getting ready to kill myself (playing partners objected to me making a mess on the course) the ball started to go in the last 5 holes.

Just thinking back over the round I played yesterday in a Stableford comp, I didn't hit one fairway, and some of the misses were very bad!
Can't remember ever doing that, but the funny thing is I still managed to score 35 points and get a 0.1 cut.

I was going to offer you £50 for it but those last darned 5 holes have just put a 1 in front of it now 🤬 😄

I had a few shocking end of season rounds last year, but managed to maintain my handicap due to the aggregate scores, or however EG work it out.

Played well throughout winter, but now stableford comps count towards handicap and I had an opening shocker, I woke this morning to a 0.7 point bump up

To be fair, in terms of score, everyone had a shocker, but after three greens being out of the equation all winter (now open but fresh) and a smittering of termps, I suppose a few rounds off the mark is acceptable.

My goal to reduce to a certain number during 2025 has taken an early knock, but have plenty more golf to rectify the situation.

I nearly always shoot higher until late May. Less run makes courses longer and unless you are a bomber, it's hard work. Better scores, hopefully, come after that. Don't beat yourself up and go chasing scores early in the season. It doesn't mean it doesn't hurt, it's just a matter of patience.
