I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Played yesterday in our Opening Day, and I was 3 over after 6 holes, dug in deep and turned 2 over, made birdie on the eighth after nearly holing an 8 iron for an eagle on a par 5.

Then made birdie on the eleventh to be 1 over, missed a five-footer birdie on the 14th for birdie, but made another birdie on the 16th to get back to par.

Two good pars coming in to shoot my age 72, yippee.

Great knock. Is that the first time you have shot your age?

I shot a bogey free 68 last year (par is 70) and our pro said you’ll be shooting your age soon. I wish, I’m only 62. Cheeky sod🤣

No, first time was two years ago, and then I shot a 69 (par 72) when I was 70, didn't realise it at the time, big surprise when I added up the card, a very nice feeling, good luck with you achieving it.

Not sure I want to post this for fear of being banned, but.......

Work scramble on Friday at Delapre in Northampton which is a par 69. I was with two guys that are very new to golf and another who was a 23/24 handicap, with a team handicap of 15.

First is a 300 yard par 4, I nearly drove the green, and we started with a lovely birdie. We then went par, birdie, par, birdie, par, birdie. It was quite ridiculous.

We finished the front 9 at three under gross for 28 points.

The back nine wasn't quite as electric, we made a few long putts to save par but no birdies and two bogeys for a gross one under and 51 points.

We won the comp 😁

Playing with 12 shots off the medal tees on a practice round today

2 over first 6
3 over last 6

Please don't ask me about the middle 6 🙃

Out solo at dawn this morning....foggy up the hill but fine on the course...until I got to the 14th (played back 9)...
Finished the 14th, went to the tee for the temporary 10th (bunker renovation), played up to the green, putted out , turned round and the course had disappeared!
Couldn't see the bench but the tee - 125 yards away.
So it was either walk in or wait and see if it cleared....
Decided to wait. There would be nobody starting in that fog and I still had 40 minutes until they should start so did some chipping and putting.
When I got bored with that I had a ball hunt.....nearly a dozen found....
Then the sun came over the trees and the fog dissipated..
Played to 17 and it started coming down again..by the time I finished the course was just playable.....

Sounds like an enjoyable morning! :)

Did you find any of mine? 🙃

Scramble for me today, we had to take at least 4 tee shots each. The leaders in the clubhouse from Saturday was nett 56... which we matched! Unfortunately there was a nett 54 today :(

I wish I could say I contributed, but I was pretty trash. I hit the approach and long putt for an unlikely birdie on our index 1 hole, a couple of decent drives, some half decent chips, but my main use was fixing pitch marks :(

I'm really going through a tough patch right now. I just don't know what game is going to turn up. My driving is good/bad on a sort of 2-round cycle, whereas my irons come and go with every 5th shot. Putting was dreadful today as well, although the greens have been tined so there were a couple of unlucky bobbles.

What's so frustrating is I know it's in there somewhere. It's not worth going to the range because within 2 or 3 balls I'm striping it and then I'm there feeling like I'm wasting my time! I can't wait for the clocks to change and get some practice time on the grass

No golf, got a bit of muscle pain in my side so resting it. Competition season just about to get under way so don't want any unnecessary injury layoffs.

Keep pushing buddy, it's only one good swing away!

I had a bogey competition at my place today, finished all square for a 24th place finish. Some fine margins involved, could have easily finished two or three up. Hit a beautiful shank on the last, ball way below my feet, just don't like those shots at all....

If Carlsberg did weekends

Played a qualifier medal. Shot net 70 (level) and came 5th to be one of the top 8 men who go up against the top 8 women qualifiers from the event in a mixed knockout. Never qualifed in over 30 years of trying. Got a cut to 7.9 and then went out in the Sunday roll up and shot a gross 76 (38 points off 9) and won the £70 pot and another cut to 7.6

Got some new toric contact lenses (haven’t worn contacts for years - have astigmatism and didn’t even know you could correct this with lenses until mentioned by optician at recent appointment). Fitted on Saturday but had 9 holes booked straight after. Optician did say that I would have to adapt to wearing lenses generally, eyes would be watery for an hour or two and that focus and depth perception would be a bit different to what I’m used to and take a few days to get used to. Anyway I ignored all that and went straight to the course…

… turns out he was right. Somehow only 2 over after first 2 holes but after a 10 on the par5 3rd and an 8 on the par4 4th I decided this wasn’t the day to be keeping score 🤣. Golf is hard enough anyway but it’s harder when your eyes/brain are telling you that the ball is in a slightly different position to your other senses 🙈.

I played 9 holes at Merchants of Edinburgh. I was in town on business and very curious about this course. Greenfee was only UKP 20 for 18 holes but I was short on time, so asked to play 9 holes. They were fine with me playing the back 9, as I had read that it features a fun line up of holes. Conditioning was good, and the ground nice and firm. It is a true hillclimb of a course and for me coming from the Netherlands, that's really fun. Absolute highlight is the 13th hole. A 200 yard par 3 that sees you teeing up atop a hill and striking out into a valley, over trees and gorse to a faraway green. I managed to hit one just over the green and settle for a nice bogey. So, what did I think of Merchants of Edinburgh? Because I only played 9 holes, and because the course is really quirky I can't give a blanket recommendation for everyone, but if you like hilly courses, don't mind blind shots, and enjoy views, and a historic course that was squeezed into a couple of hillsides by the likes of Ben Sayers and James Braid - this is one for you.
