I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Bit of a theme this week -

Tuesday - 22 points front 9, playing some lovely stuff, go seriously off the boil on the back 9, 3 blobs, 12 points
Thursday - 23 points after 10, going along nicely, then it gets very scrappy, end up scrambling for 1 pointers, 9 points over the last 8 holes.

Not sure if its mental, tiredness or lack of concentration, but it’s not a good trend 😳
Ha! Low 30s is nothing to worry about. try mid 20s!

Played Goswick yesterday, good timing as they came off the mats monday.

Course was immaculate, played decent, not played off grass on fairways since October so very pleased with 37 points.

Got paired with a bloke from Hull up playing Goswick yesterday and Dunstanburgh today, good company, said his handicap was around 20 as he’s not a member anywhere, Par’d the first 2 holes and I thought 20 my backside, he was though, he was 22 over after 9, he played a bit steadier on the back 9 and finished by birdieing 18, that gave him 24 points overall.

A quick 9 holes after knocking off at 3pm - mostly very rusty but probably hit the nicest shot in about 3-4 years so left satisfied

Played a pairs scramble today and won 8/7.

Finished off the round and won the bye 2/1, so although the 18th was a par 5, played nearest the pin in 3 shots and I won that.

Lovely weather, great company and all on a work day.

Used to do the same at your place. I just find the back 9 much harder.

First day of the course being back on full layout and fairways on. Of course it was raining.

I was shocking off the tee on the front 9 and didn’t putt great but the stuff I’ve been working on with my irons on Trackman really worked well today as I hit some cracking shots. Still trying to get used to the new found distance though, airmailed a couple and ended up 20 yards through the back.

Still, positive signs as I shot +5 which was good as I doubled the first after taking a drop from a gorse bush and fatting a wedge 40 yards. I lost the skins match between the 3 of us, it ended 6,5,4 and my 20 footer on the last for 3 skins hit the back of the cup, jumped up in the air and landed 2 inches left. Cost me 2 pints of Madri.

Very enjoyable today when it could have been anything but. Rain was forecast, we got drizzle at times but nothing excessive. My back wasn't feeling great so I didn't enter the comp, in case I had to walk in, but in the end I played all 18.

My back playing up meant I swung slower than usual. No surprise to hear that meant better as well 😄. Timing was good, trajectory lovely, all well. For the last 6 holes I used 3 wood off the tee instead of driver, just for practice. It's a useful back up club if driver is being naughty but I haven't used it all winter. A couple of dodgy ones to start off with and then the ball started to fly 😍. Arrow straight, good distance, happy days.

Very pleased with my round, just one more week and then we are back to the regular tees and big boy golf starts again 😬

The only thing worse than drinking madri is having to buy someone else one

I agree the back 9 is harder, but it’s more than that, the quality of my golf on the front 9 is miles better.

Today was a case in point - 21 points on the front 9 including 5 pars in a row from the 2nd to the 6th, playing some lovely stuff. Back 9 13 points including 3 blobs, all as a result of lazy sloppy shots.

29 points, driver all over the place, irons started well then tailed off, greens aerated so some weird bobby putts, not a great day out.

Scramble comp tomorrow. Just hoping the weather plays ball enough. At least I can get away with shocking shots tomorrow

Played in our individual competition today, I had three good chances at a 2, but shaved them all. My chip on the other Par 3 wasn’t too shabby , but then two putted.

Some days ………

Spring Stableford, non counting.

31 points off 1 handicap but tough conditions with no roll.

Around 120 entries across D1 and D2 and only approx 10 beat 36 points (all playing yellow tees). Rough..

My new driver hasn't turned up yet and I traded my old one in, so used a mini driver off my brother.
Going a long nicely, finished 8, 5, 8 for a 90. My head is on Mars right now.

38 points though. Might cancel the driver order.

Played in a 4 man bow maker today. 2 to score from 4. Still off the forward tees until next weekend so my HC was +1 today. Team had 82 points to finish joint 10th. Winners had 92 points 😳. Personally I was 1 over and had two 2’s so should get a few quid into my account😁

Pretty sure I’ve mentioned on this thread or other threads, my short game gets me out of trouble. Feel as though I can just get it up near the green, chip it close and normally hole the putt.

Well folks, my short game has completely deserted me! I literally don’t know what I’m doing over the shot. Practice swings are fine, step into the shot and I’m duffing, thinning, the lot. Awful feeling.

I had a shot today, 60 yards from the pin, chunked it 20 yards just short of a bunker. Get to it, oh god, I’ve got to get over the bunker, but there’s 40 yards to the pin so do I fly it or chip it over…? Neither, don’t really decide what I’m doing and hit the ground 2 inches behind the ball and into the bunker.

Terrible feeling.

I've been there ............................ for the last six years!

Went to Airlinks course in Hounslow with the wife today. It's a par 68 but only 4821 yards off the yellows, so a short one. I only get 8 shots there now. (Previously went there and was getting 16 but I knew that had to be a mistake - obviously redone the ratings recently).

I played an absolute blinder! Only real slip-up on the front nine was a poor three-putt on the 5th when I hadn't quite figured out that the greens were quicker than they looked. Sank a long birdie putt from just off the edge of the green on the 7th to make up for it. Three over par at the turn for 18 points.

Back nine was even better. Chipped in with a hybrid from the back of the par 3 13th for a second birdie. Managed a third birdie on the 17th as well. Two over back nine for 21 points - 73 gross and 39 points overall. No double bogeys either.

My wife played fantasticly well too. On the 4th, a long par 3, a group of four blokes let us play through, and my wife did the old 'I'm not very good' chuckle, before very nearly getting a hole in one with driver! Must have missed the hole by two or three inches and we all had a good chuckle. She also got a birdie of her own on the back nine when she stuck a 7 iron to about four feet from just over 100 yards. 105 gross and 38 points for her in the end.

Weather was superb as well, we were expecting drizzle but it was lovely and warm all the way round. Unreal day's golf - technically my best ever round, but I can't really count it as such given how short the course was (I only hit driver 3 times). Still so happy that we both played amazingly though!

Scorecard attached so you can be the judge if it counts or not... 😂
