I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

I played today out at Craigielaw after work.
Decided to take just irons out with me for a bit of a change, played off the blues, was +2 for the front 9 but fell apart a bit for a +10 total. Off my handicap I get 9 shots so pretty much one over with only irons, wedges and putter is good going

It’s good to do stuff like that might give you a new strategy insight.
I like playing off our back tee boxes because no hazard is reachable… 2nd shot is long but better to play in the fairway than a trap… so I did a bit of that yesterday and there was a benefit.

Yes it just gives a different perspective on the course

Played in the Hillman Trophy on Saturday at Theale. Got beat 4&3 and was giving 6 shots to my opponent on his home course and somewhere I'd never played so a big ask. Team got beat 5-2 and better side did win on the day. However it will be the first and last time I play there. Totally unkept and tee boxes like semi rough, greens so slow the slowest aimpoint stimp didn't match on my chart and the worse bunkering ever. Think a local pitch and putt with those tiny scraped out bunkers. These had no lining and irregularly filled with what looked like play pit sand. Fairway bunkers were a scrape in the ground covered in sand. Yardage booklet didn't give any correct indications to ponds and red stakes hidden by long grass so no idea where the edge of the hazard was. My playing partner did give me some help but its alays tough to play a new track and not know where the misses were or what club to use. He was a very steady 20 handicapper and to be fair I did gift him a few holes on the back 9 so I can't grumble about the result but the course was shocking. I know it is a pay and play and it doesn't have any ideas above what it is (and a nice group of lads we played against and good service in the clubhouse) but would have given Lydd a run as my least favourite course ever

Walked round Dewsbury with Jamie. Shocking start for him dropping a load of shots on the first 4 but he played the next 14 with 6 pars, 6 bogies and 2 doubles - both a result of some poor short game play which we’ll do some work on as well as his putting (now the greens are getting something like)

Beautiful evening up here in West Yorkshire but the shot tracer didn’t like the low sun. 🤔

Is that the 12th?

Monthly medal today and had a shocker shooting a 10 over 80. I have a 0.0 differential coming off my HI and I’m expecting to go up 0.3. The sun was out but the soft ground and cold easterly wind made it tough. The best nett score all day is a 1 over 71.

Played 9 tonight and hated every minute of the 2hrs it took.

Seriously thinking about joining somewhere else as AG don’t give a crap

Parred a par 5 with a drive a 6 iron and 3 putts from 20 feet. Drive for show putt for dough

Well yesterday’s magic was short lived .. last few holes were poor due to exhaustion. I think also my swing was off plane with my irons and I was just trying to compensate.. good news was the driver was okay and the issue with my chipping is the lack of balance control.

Played last night, short version is +8 for a 6.4 differential. Got a 2 though so will get some money back in the sweep.

Long version is I started terribly. Pulled my first drive 60 yards left OB so doubled. On the second I blocked a putt 6 foot right of were I was aiming (long 60 foot putt) and hit a playing partners ball for a 2 stroke penalty. Totally my fault, I didn't ask him to mark it as I thought "no way I'm going to hit that". Then I 3 putted the 3rd for a bogey. Normally I'd have lost my head at that point but I managed to keep it for once and played decent golf.

Good points were I struck my irons/hybrids really well again. Hit two 4 hybrids from 190 and 193 into the wind that carried all the way to the pin and dropped softly, both around 10 feet (missed both putts). Getting my net out on Tuesday in the garden and just hitting balls until I found something that stopped the chunks worked. Bad points were I had the pulls with the driver until hole 9 and my putting was erratic. Holed 3 long ones (something I rarely do) but also only holed 2 out of about 7 putts that I had from 4-8 foot.

Overall some promising signs I think. Still enjoying my new club but the only issue currently is the hitting nets are out of order just now due to wind damage so there is nowhere to warm up properly as the practice area is about 100 yards long and to the right of the first fairway. Stepping onto the first tee without having hit a single practice shot isn't ideal. I might take some old balls next time and smash driver into the North Sea from the practice area.

Hit the path on the left and bounced into the horse field. Massive pull hook, was aiming at the left bunker and expecting a fade. Worst part about it was the field is mostly short grass with a few circles of deep grass. The ball went into one of the deep patches and I lost it. Brand new ProV1x left dash, one hit and gone. Was more gutted about losing the ball than the 2 shots.

Drive on 2 was on 18, 3 was on 16, 5 was on 10 and 6 was on 9. Major case of the lefts that suddenly disappeared when I skied one straight on 7, after that driving was great, everything down the middle. Wasn’t far off driving 15, ShotScope had it at 292 yards, I had 40 yards to a back pin. Missed the 8 footer for birdie while my 3 playing partners all holed from further to birdie it. Stupid, annoying game.

If I was back at Arcot I’d have lost half a dozen balls.

Tell me about it.

Going along great guns today, 25 points after 12 holes, everything working well.

From nowhere I duff a drive into the trees on 13, then hit a tree with my 2nd, pick up. 14 hit a great drive, then blast my 2nd into the trees on right, lost ball. 15 pull the tee shot, lands in some boggy stuff to the left of the green, never to be seen again. 16, decent drive, blast 2nd into trees on the right, lost ball. 17, pull drive into trees on the left, hit a tree trying to escape, lost ball. 18, good drive, pull 2nd into the trees on the right, lost ball.

From 25 points after 12 to 1 point on the final 6 and 4 lost balls. It really is such a stupid game.

First round of another club knockout tonight, I was getting 3 shots but in all honesty I didn't need them. I played seriously well and my opponent wasn't quite at the races. I sunk a long putt for birdie on 8 to go 3 up, made another birdie on 10 to go 4 up and then won the next 3 to win 7&5, another match finished by the 13th.

Bandit. 😂

I played 13 holes last night in cracking weather, I was planning to play 18 but having played the first 6 holes at a lovely pace I then caught a slow 2-ball following a slow 4-ball, and the pace was so slow I called it day early.

My golf was very average, especially off the tee, the course is drying out nicely.
