I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

I have a huge affection for Bude. I wish the 4th still crossed the road😁 The good holes are very good. Always let us take the dog round with us too. Same at the Perranporth.
Loved the 4th when it was an island par 3 in front of the hotel. Always found the welcome very warm and hospitable as well. Definitely a members club worth joining if you are down that way.

Stableford comp this morning. played really well from tee to green, but putting let me down, 5 x 3 putts.

But the real irritation was on 18. Sitting on 34 points, hit a lovely drive over the dip, saw it bounce just off the left hand side of the fairway, which is a good position to attack the pin. As I'm walking up, see a guy coming up the 1st. He bends over more or less where I thought my ball would be. I can only see the top half of his body. He stands up and walks on. I shout to him "did you just pick a ball up?", he ignores me. I get to where I think my ball is, no sign of it. So I walk up to the 1st green where he is putting and ask again if he just picked a ball up when he bent over? He looks pretty sheepish, but denies taking it.

I'm 99% certain he took it, but what can you do? So no score for me on the last, end on 34, get into clubhouse to find 36 is winning

Shot 5 over today, lovely 25 degrees and little wind, so no complaints....

Playing off 2 tomorrow at my second club, still very hard for me to be a Sandbagger, but I'm working on it.

Will play the second course this Saturday as there is little chance of playing to my handicap, if you cannot beat the OZ HS you may as well use it to your advantage.

Midweek Stableford today...bloomin' nippy to start but gloriously warm by the 12th..
Blobbed the 1st...nice start...but steadied the ship until a poor drive put me in trouble on the 6th..another blob...
However, a very decent birdie 3 on the 4th and a chip in 2 on the 5th made up for things and I turned on 18 points with 2 blobs.
Steady back 9 of 16 points - the wind increased a bit and with the ground rock hard it was tricky to control the ball.
Currently sitting 6th in Div1 and it looks like a 0.1 cut as well.

Out for the P790's maiden voyage.
I found out that no matter how good the clubs are they can't improve a crap swing!
At least I played crap with beautiful golf clubs.
However, when I did strike them from the middle they really did stay struck.
And, oh my word, they feel beautiful.

I didn't play today... but I am playing tomorrow : Beat the Pro 4-ball scramble

Our 4 Pro's start on 1st to set the score (off scratch obviously) while the rest of teams go shotgun round the course. Each team that beats the pro's score wins. IIRC they did 12 under last year so that's gotta be the target. Our team is off 8 h/cap, 2 men 2 women

Should be fun

Yet another knockout match. Guy I played has a bit of a reputation - for what I didn't really know as I can't recall ever having played him before. But now I know. Mind games.

After we both played rather meh putts on the 13th to half the hole he turned to me a declared that we were both playing rubbish golf. And that theme continued for the rest of the round.

As we walked from 15th green to 16th tee - after we'd both missed fairly short putts for bogeys he regaled me with the words 'this is possibly the worst match I've ever played in - we are both playing terribly'. I was dumfounded, and made some comment along the lines of 'well actually I'm thinking I'm not playing that bad, and that I've hit some decent shots'. It shut him up for a moment.

On the 18th green all square I was 12ft in 3 and he was about 8ft in 4 - no shot. As I go to putt he tells me I had my putt to win. I missed and I got a comment about leaving it short - albeit tap-in short. He stood over his putt muttering out loud to me how he hadn't holed a putt all day. He missed. And though it's unlike me to say such a thing...thankfully he missed.

Solid rounds of +6 and +4 earlier this week lowered me down to 5.5. Follow that up with an amazing round of 21 pts yesterday.....I just gave up. Struggled the front 9 again today then slowed my backswing considerably after 9 and was even par on the back nine (with one double bogie, 3 putt from 10 feet). A guy could get a complex with the ups and downs each day...... I should drop another couple of tenths for tomorrows rollup. I always feel a bit guilty playing in rollups since I usually can't add many points compared to the others.

Just go out and hit the ball. What the score will be will be. Hard work having to scramble a lot though isn't it

After my last couple of rounds and last night's driving range session had me feeling confident that I'd fixed my driving with the slightly stronger grip - guess what? I haven't at all. Is anyone shocked?

Had the day off today and played at Aylesbury Vale with my dad, uncle and cousin (the latter two are members there). First hole is a short par 5, fairways were baked hard and a good drive had me reaching for 3 wood to go for it in two - little bit fadey, missed the green right and never saw it again. Did alright for the next few holes but driver woes started after that - pulled a couple straight left on the 5th and 6th, then on the 9th I actually hit a massive hook, which never happens, so was close to losing the plot. Smashed a provisional down there, then just short of the green with 3 wood (it's a par 5) - got up and down for a bogey 6. 😂 Should've been a birdie... but 15 points for the front nine was disappointing.

Of course after going left a few times I sliced the drive on the 10th so doubled that one too. Despite fighting for my life with driver though, I managed to knock a few points together on the rest of the back nine - although bobbly greens and a couple of three-putts cost me once or twice. Good pars on 14 (very long par 4) and 16, plus a nice late surprise with a birdie 2 on the 17th, meant I somehow managed to piece 19 points together for the back nine. So 34 points in the end, despite not really feeling like I played great - if my ball hadn't have disappeared on the 1st I'd have had a good score. Handicap will be going up once again though.

We did a match of me and my dad vs uncle and cousin and it was us who took the victory this time. My dad played superbly well (38 points off his 37 handicap) and won more holes for us than I did, that's for sure. 3 & 2 victory and bragging rights until the next one.

I played yesterday evening and shot my best ever front 9 at +2, which I'm delighted with! I had a feeling that it was going to be a good one all day, so it was nice it came together. Highlight was the drive on 9 when I finally hit the soft draw on the line I've been aiming for for WEEKS lol

I know I don't need as many shots as I get so it was nice to prove that to myself. I've had a few rounds that have put my handicap up a couple shots very quickly, but I know I can chop them off very quickly as well

What made the round nicer was I joined up with a guy on the first tee who offered to let me go first because he was new. We were behind a four ball so it would've been pointless. I assured him I didn't mind and round we went, having a good chat and it was just really pleasant. He was grateful for the advice I gave him and it was nice to help someone in the position that I was a when I first started. Hopefully he realises that people don't mind if you hit a few bad shots and it helps with his confidence :)
