Well, that was soggy 😳. Must have been a deluge last night as it hasn't been bad for the rest of the week. Thank heavens for pick and place.

Very enjoyable, despite the mud and water. New irons worked very well, I'm definitely getting the hang of them now. The benefits are clear to me, I'm happy 😊.

Putted very well until 2 innocuous holes were I 3 putted from no distance 😭.

Overall, a cracking morning.

Trolleys still allowed on the path at ours but I've started carrying because the 90° walk from the path to my ball every time was adding about a mile to the round.
Trimmed the bag down and only took 6 clubs out this morning. My best round in ages. Three of us playing skins and after 11 holes I'd won 11 skins. 😁

Went out today and started in thick fog and a temperature of 1ºC.
An hour late and I was peeling off the layers until I was down to my polo, the weather was sublime.
As was my driving!
I was trying out the Jim Venetos swing and, despite it looking extremely weird, it seemed to work superbly with my driver!
I was regularly 30yds beyond my mates' drives .......................................... superb.
I also hit a few really good 7 woods and mid irons, too.
Maybe it only worked today, but I'll definitely persevere for a bit longer as it took the right side comfortably out of play.
It will need some tinkering, however, as the shorter irons were a bit iffy.
Had a good day!

From above, this was at around noon.
Less than an hour later and polo shirts were the order of the day.

9 holes for me as well. I had a small bucket to warm up on before i started. Haven’t played for at least 2 weeks, so wasn’t trying to do anything but hit the ball. Which to be honest I was and I was striking very nicely.
Was 4 over gross for my 9 holes, one double bogey after plugging in a bunker. I just stood staring at it trying to remember what to do but I never remembered and it was a mess.
I also tried my new (to me) Axis 1 putter, this was actually very good and it felt okay.

1st time out for two weeks and not hit a single ball during this period. 5 birdies and still managed to finish 1 over par. Birdied 16 and 17 to get to 1 under and then made a double on the last 🤬 A very wet course in places.

Roll up stableford today…24 of us playing off yellow tees. My 95% is 6…no room for a double bogey blunder…so I card two of them 🙄 Still…34pts, couple of birdies and a nice knock other than the doubles. Course in pretty good state given the rain - mostly fairly dry underfoot. 37 pts won it so not too far off.

AM/AM today and the weather was great considering. I weren’t down to a polo but some were.

Played well over all with no real blow ups which I am taking as progress. High and lowlight of the round was a great drive on a par 5 with a 5 iron to 10ft. It was downhill and I got a little excited with an eagle chance… rolled it by and left it over the hole for birdie. Weird coming off annoyed with “just a par”

Very frustrating day today, started with a run of three bogeys thinking its going to be one of those days. Then went on a run of 4 straight birdies, then two more bogeys for a +1 front nine of 34.

Back nine, holy jebus it’s like I forgot where I was. It was awful, chucking in doubles for fun with only a birdie and a few of pars for any semblance of respectability for a +6 back 40.

A very, very hard and demoralising 74.

What could have been on what was a cracking day weather-wise playing with a mate that’s not been able to play since June.

Pretty wet at our place as well, I never noticed the downpour on Friday night, but there obviously had been one.

Mixed bag for me. Highlight was a par on our SI1. Doesn’t sound anything to shout about, but it’s 450 yards off the yellows, hit a great drive then a lovely hybrid to be as close to the green as I’ve ever been after 2 shots, about 30 yards short. Really nice chip to about a foot for a tap in 4.

Like I say, doesn’t sound much, but I was chuffed to bits given no run at all, and the improbability of me hitting 3 great shots in a row 😁

Yep… wet one here as well. Was acceptable at 7:40 when I left but it pretty much chucked down the second we’d all tee’d off the 1st. Weather was fine by the 8th though and it looks great out there now.

Drove well, irons good but chipping and putting was tough today… combination of the conditions, few temps and just terrible swings whete you don’t commit. Short chip practice this week if I get chance. Scored well overall though so happy enough.

Our Xmas foursomes today - drawn high and low HC , different format - scratch Stableford then HC added on after

Every year when I play it you can see why peoples handicaps are high even if they can hit the ball well - course and shot management is really poor at times. It’s very frustrating to see great drives and shots wasted - oh well , same again next year , a solid 18 points plus 10 😂

Course very wet and muddy. More of the usual from my golf - abysmal driving, decent everything else and holed a few putts on the front nine to have 17 points with four pars, despite a car crash hole on the 8th. Back nine much poorer with four doubles creeping in so only added 13 more.

We were playing a three-way skins match though, which I was able to win with some good putts at the right times. Was close down the back nine with a lot of individual holes being won rather than rolling over, but we ended up with three skins on the line on the 17th with whoever won it taking the match. I turned up with my only par of the back nine to take it 8-6-4 in the end.

Driving is really making me want to cry though. Didn't lose any balls today but just hitting this massive fade/slice shape that normally ends up in the right hand rough. On the 12th I hit a provisional that I absolutely piped dead straight - aside from the obvious (it being a provisional), I've no idea what I did differently. It felt exactly the same swing as the sliced ones. That is the most annoying part of it.

December Medal today and my final opportunity to qualify for next years Scratch Salver competition (best 16 gross scores and ties from all of the Monthly Medals)....needed to shoot a gross 77 to qualify.

Started nicely with three consecutive pars before reaching the 183yd par 3 4th hole. Its a narrow green...maybe just 10 yards wide and 27yds front to back, water immediately in front of the tee, water left and left/front of the green, water behind the green. Prevailing wind is usually against and from the left and with my natural fade a brave shot over the water, letting the ball drift back to the green is my stock shot to play and if it finds the bunker on the right then so be it.

I seem to have lost my fade.

Nutted a 7 wood straight over the pond and it never moved an inch. There is a spit of land separating the two greenside lakes and if you are lucky your ball might find it. Grabbed a hybrid and took a provisional and again drilled it straight along the edge of the lake with not an ounce of movement....never saw it land. Took my 5th off the tee and hit an identical shot. Swore profusely at my lack of a fade. In the event, I found my first provisional, pin high, on the spit of land between the two lakes. Wedged to around 6ft from a boggy lie but couldn't hole the putt, so ended up with a six.

The rest of the round saw me play decent golf, for the most part striking the ball as well as I have in a long time, the only disappointments on the front nine were finding the new pond on the 8th, which is still a big muddy GUR hole, and failing to get up and down from the drop zone, and then on the 9th I missed a 3ft putt, leaving the ball dead center 2 inches short after being disturbed by a horse. Finished the front nine 6 over gross.

Got the round back on track with a great approach from 140yds to 3ft to set up a birdie on 11, rolled a great 10 footer in for par on 12 after hitting a poor tee shot trying to play quickly before more horse riders appeared from behind me (I could hear them coming and they generally dont stop if golfers are on the tee and continue past the tee up the bridleway that runs the length of the hole putting themselves in danger). Regulation bogey on the SI1 13th saw me sat on 6 over gross needing to play the final 5 holes in no more than 1 over to qualify.

Fourteen and fifteen were par'd without too much incident but sixteen required a TV worthy shot out of a greenside bunker which bounced once and stopped dead 2ft from the hole.

Made a mess of the relatively easy par 5 17th....all it needed was a drive to the middle of the wide fairway, setting up a shot over the corner of the dogleg, to leave a short iron approach to the green....unfortunately I pushed the tee shot into trees on the right and eventually just drfited my 10ft par put just left of the hole. All down to the 18th and a par would have seen me make next years Scratch Salver comp (which I won 20 years ago!)... a poor approach from a rare bare lie in a patch of light rough saw me needed to chip close off a sidehill lie and one putt. Chip wasnt good enough and left me a fifteen footer which sadly just drifted a couple of inches wide.

Ordinarily, I'd have been delighted with an 8 over gross 78 in cold damp soft winter conditions, but bogeying both of the closing holes was bloody annoying after fighting for so long to keep the round hanging together.

When I left the clubhouse my nett 69 was sat in second place...not sure that there were many folks out on the course behind us playing in the comp, so likely that will remain the case, so a few pounds will no doubt be credited to my bar account as a reward for my endeavours.

Played Goswick today, absolutely brilliant, 3 1/2hrs as near to heaven as you can get on earth. 😉

Went as a single and the Lady in the Pro Shop asked a 3 Ball if they’d mind me joining them, they were happy and it turned out great, ex-Captain and his wife with a guest, great company and made the day even better.

Lot of work going on on the front 9, new tee boxes on the 4th, bunker work on 3 of the holes and changes to 2 Greens.

I believe next winter their will be changes to the back 9 and once a few issues with course boundaries are sorted there will be a new Par 3 going in after the 6th and the current 9th will disappear.

Once that is done the tee box for the first will move to the left roughly were the trees by the current 9th are.

Golf was good as well, we chucked the balls up and had a friendly pairs match.

Course was in excellent condition and bone dry, plus the wind at less than 5mph.
Quite weird looking at the snow on the Cheviots one side and the North Sea crashing against the beach on the other

I’m going back soon.🏌🏻‍♂️
