Snuck out on Sunday for what was meant to be a quick 12 holes on my own while the Mrs. and baby were out for a sunday dinner. Thought it would be quiet around 2pm but the local muni put people together to fill tee times and make more money. No-one seems to stick to it though and it ends up backing up the full course.

Was too cold to be stood waiting at every tee box (there's only so many practice swings you can take). Ended up playing holes 1-6 then 2&3 over and over until I was bored. Tried taking on the holes differently each time - Iron off the tee when I would normally take driver etc. Made no difference to how I scored😂😂. Better than nowt I suppose!
This is a major problem with courses that have that policy. Happened to us once - booked two-ball at Stockley Park and had no idea we were booked with another two-ball. So they send us out together and the other two lads said "We'll just play the first hole with you, then we'll let you play in front of us" as they felt they were hackers and didn't want to hold us up. Fine by us we thought, but then if everyone did that the entire course would be rammed.

I've got a place booked for this Friday as well where they have the same policy. I booked it on my phone, then went on my laptop just to see what it looks like, and sure enough it lets you book the same time and doesn't even tell you there's another two-ball booked then. I think it's daft, at least let people know so they have the option.

We’ve just started the season where due to demand the club are forced to ‘build groups’ up to 4-ball size particularly at weekends
So for next 2-3 months there’s every chance any smaller group will get topped up with more players (invariably tourists) and you won’t know until you arrive on 1st tee

I generally don’t mind but do wish they’d put more thought into it so that players intending to play X tees are grouped rather than a mishmash of maybe three sets being used in same group which makes a notable diff to pace

Heavy frost on Monday night meant that we were on temps yesterday. Played well bar a couple of disasters (two blobs and one ball in the pond on our signature hole). Happy with 39 points in the circumstances.

Snowed last night and forecast to be freezing cold until Saturday, so can’t see the snow shifting for a few days.

Just back from playing 15 holes before dark...
We're Carry Only at the moment as there's still patches of snow, now ice, in places that don't catch much sun. The greens were starting to freeze when I left.
Played well to be honest...probably 3 or 4 over for the 15 holes.
Tried out the new UW with mixed results against my 7 wood.
When I caught the UW well it was night and day better than the 7w.....but it took 4 or 5 shots to beat the 7w..
It has potential but it's got work to do..
May get out tomorrow but definitely not the weekend...looks like Armageddon courtesy of Storm Bert.....Great name for a storm - not....

yesterday I played at anther course that was new to me, Hallamshire in Sheffield, the course was very nice and a good challenge and I really enjoyed l playing it.
I played pretty well too but I did find sometimes it punished good shots, a well hit 3 wood the landed in the middle of the fairway and then kicked way left into what turned out to be a deep gully, never saw the ball again. also a couple of times on par 3s I hit good high irons that landed on the green but the run offs were so severe that on both occasions I ended up as the bottom of steep banks.
I will certainly play worse and score better

One of my absolute favourites. Always try and book The Hallamshire on our Open rota.

had a wander round Tandridge in the cold today with a half set. 8 holes on temporary greens and a shortened course should never be 4 1/2 hours, but the carvery afterwards is truly excellent and driving was the best it's been in blooming ages!

Played the Downshire today for a friend's birthday. Originally he was trying to get us at the Lambourne but we ended up with the Downshire, which felt like a massive downgrade but there you go. It was muddy as all hell, the fairways looked like rough, and even just slightly in the rough meant a long search for your ball. Pretty poor but what you get for £20 - no idea why he picked this place for his birthday, but he's an odd one.

It was absolutely freezing when we teed off, my wife was playing with us so of course we got there too late for a warm-up. Consequently it took me until the 6th hole before I even felt like I could swing a club - just 4 points in total for the first five. Honestly didn't do too bad after that, 13 points out and 16 points on the back nine, including three very crap three-putts. It was a hard slog though in the conditions and I was thoroughly fed up of looking for balls by the end. Didn't help that I was using those Srixon Divide orange/yellow balls that are basically invisible in leaves!! Useless.

Thankfully the competition today has been cancelled this morning. Tempted by the range but pouring rain forecast and 45mph gusts.

Supposed to be watching Macclesfield FC this arvo , the only team to have not lost in the English Football leagues (league only) … But I fancy hibernating today!!!!

Anyone playing golf today?

Would love to know if any course is actually open. Looked at the weather map of UK this morning, the only area, at that time, not covered in rain was a bit around London.

I suspect our course could be closed for quite some time, with the snow finally thawing and replaced by heavy rain

Our competition committee took the sensible decision to cancel today’s comp yesterday to save us all a trip. Thought about the range, but I’m hitting it so badly at the moment the last thing I want to do is try and put things right by hitting into a 40mph wind.

So I’m off to the gym for a couple of hours instead. I hate sitting at home on a Saturday morning.

Supposed to play yesterday, course under snow so obviously closed. Still closed today due to heavy rain, even worse forecast for tomorrow. Golf free weekend then :(

Shot 4 over par, did not hole a putt over 5 feet, a lot looked like they were going in but either lipped out or swung away late, very frustrating but had a good ball striking day.

Good signs for next week, playing Tuesday through to Sunday, weather looks good as well, mid 20's to low 30's.

Our comp has been cancelled but course is open. Noone in their right mind would play in this wind. Up to 50mph gusts. Will go range to the range later though.
