I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Got out early this morning as the forecast was for the wind to really pick up this afternoon (it has). We didn’t see the forecasted 40mph gusts but it was probably a steady 20mph or so, a lot of members who cancelled their tee times in the last couple of days probably regretted it.

First game in a few weeks, now off winter tees and fairway protection but greens were very good. Hit the ball much better than last time out, drove 2 of the shortened par 4’s (3 stabbed both of them) but was just happy to get out.

Beat my mate 1 up as well so he had to get the round in.

You got off lightly with the wind.

Texas Scramble 9am Shotgun start at our place. It was ok for the first hour but after that it got progressively wilder and wilder.

Drove well and putted well, everything else was pants.

Was completely knackered after 18.

36pts and a pretty decent 6 over par. Frustrating that I missed four putts of under 4ft...but as I also holed a good number of much longer putts - some that I might not normally expect to hole - I don't count my four missed putts as shots 'left out there'...they are balanced off by four long ones I holed. So I don't delude myself into thinking 'I should have been two over'. Six over in difficult wet and windy conditions is fine.

Went out in the afternoon, first game in three weeks. 35mph gusts and a soggy, muddy course made it difficult, but I think I played quite well for the most part. Did a little match against my 23 handicapper mate, so giving 8 shots.

Managed to triple the 1st (par 3) to go one down but parred three of the next four holes to be one up. Had a problem on the 6th where I didn't have the club I needed (took half my irons out as I was carrying) so tried a knockdown 7 into wind, hit it too fadey and the wind blew it straight out of bounds! Just don't have that shot in the locker. 😂

Still made it back to one up at the turn but then as the weather took a turn for the worse, my game did as well. Poor driving and bad putting cost me and I found myself 2 down with two to play - halved the next for a 2&1 defeat.

Other than some more shocking sliced drives and poor putting on the back nine, there were some good signs. Hit 3 wood beautifully and my 60-80 yard pitches were very good. 28 points in tough conditions, pretty pleased overall.

Played in our Christmas Swindle today (same as the normal swindle but a few extra quid in the pot from un-won nearest the pins). 31 points which was T2, but missed out on count back (3 others on the same). Did get a nearest the pin though, which was a tenner rather than the usual 4 quid so pleased with that. Ball striking was much better than last week (two rounds in which I scored about 24 points in each)

Weird as we teed off at 9:08 but managed to get finished at 11:40. There were a couple of big gusts on the back 9 but nothing major was sustained, just felt like a normal stiff wind day. Maybe I’m just used to the wind now. 😂

Played at my Old course and started like a house on fire, 2 under after 3 holes, the weather was HOT so plenty of stubbies were going down, hence the golf deteriorated, finished 6 over par.

In our 4 ball my partner and I off 4 had to give 8 and 10 shots, after turning 1 up we were were under the pump, all square with 5 holes to play and they had shots on all of them.

I won the 17th to square the match and lipped out for birdie on the last to win it....so all square.

All four of us hit the ball about the same length off the tee, so I think we were lucky to finish square.

We finished at 12.57. The last hour was definitely the worst for wind. Trolleys tipping over pretty frequently. One of my PPs got blown into a bunker by a big gust 😁

Interesting that you have to give shots on all the last 5 holes when giving 10 in total. I thought CONGU or whoever writes the manual advises against that sort of thing.

I am in West Aussie.....and over here each club can set there stroke index's as they like.....have played at a course where I was off a 5 handicap, 4 on the front nine and 1 on the back nine, what chance did I have winning a countback.

Played San Roque with Aztecs27’s uncle Andy, cousin Max,and another Blackmoor member. Stunning course in immaculate condition, and full sun 18 degrees.(y) Doesn’t get much better golf wise, and not missing UK at all.:) If I can just find the £60,000 joining fee, and annual membership of £4,000 I’m in.;)

Two social rounds with pals at the weekend.
All drives long and in play; chipping and putting really well; no balls lost.
Unfortunately, I'm hitting long irons and hybrids from the fairway like a drunk orangutan. 75% are a bit fat or a bit thin. Can't seem to figure out the thing that prevents me getting better than low-teens HI.

Played this morning with my usual PP and a couple of mates that we don’t see very often.

Nice friendly BB game going, my and one mate against my PP the other. We were giving them 11 shots.

Combination of some decent play and dovetailing nicely, we smashed then 6&5 to take the Christmas money.

Nice lunch in the clubhouse afterwards and now I’m sitting stuffed on the couch working the turkey through.

Great day and doing it all again tomorrow morning, usual PP and his brother.

Where did you play?

Played in lovely weather, started well with 5 straight pars then the bogeys appeared, could not buy a putt on the back nine, but had a good day with nice playing partners, shot 8 over par and went out point 4 but still on a 4 handicap
