To hate strokeplay is to hate golf.Strokeplay comp yesterday.
An 8 on the second after having a meltdown in a greenside bunker. Head was all over the place for the next 3 or 4 holes.
Had birdie putts lip out on 8 and 9 as my head began to clear.
However, 3 off the tee on 10, then the 4th lost in the trees saw me bow the inevitable and NR.
Lost another one off the tee on 18 to cap what I thought was a pretty miserable display. However, did a quick calc afterwards to find I would have scored a respectable 33 points if it had been stableford.
No wonder people hate strokeplay!
I don't disagree, but if you took a straw poll, I think you would find the majority prefer stableford. Certainly our stableford comps attract more entries than strokeplay. To hate strokeplay is to hate golf.
Formats that allow you to not count some of your bad shots is Mickey Mouse Golf, just for fun, not serious, not to be taken seriously.
Strokeplay is real golf, that is why it is played at serious levels. A proper test of golfing ability.

This was one of my pet hates, far too many stableford comps. What I've found is that lower handicap players prefer strokeplay as they feel they have a chance if a higher handicap players has a couple of blow up holes and vice versa.I don't disagree, but if you took a straw poll, I think you would find the majority prefer stableford.
