32 points off the whites and there was seriously good, bad and ugly. 4 times par threes, bogeyed one, parred two and Birdied one. Hit a 3 wood from 195 to 16” and it rolled across the front of the hole, the closest I will come to a Hole in one this year.
Knobbed a drive along the floor, it hit the yellow pot and kicked it 30 yards left into the bushes 🤬
When the golfing gods laugh they get bellyache with me.😡

Played the weekly society 9 hole this afternoon. A three wood second shot on the 1st put me just short of the green but in among a large group of about 40 seagulls that were gathered. As I got near I noticed a young gull pecking at my ball and despite my shouts it decided to fly off with it in its mouth! Fortunately it dropped it on the second tee.

Nearest the pin on the 7th and 17 points got me the win on countback and made for an eventful round.

Had the day off today, originally to play in @PJ87 's member & guest competition as we did last year, but it was cancelled - so instead he came to me to play my course for the first time. We had an eye on the weather all week, but the downpours were mostly over with before we teed off. It was very windy though.

My front nine was just shocking. Knifed several approaches, putted awfully. I could blame the sudden change in weather (been a while since I had to put trousers and a jumper on for golf), or lack of warm-up, but whatever it was, I was crap. Giving PJ 8 shots, I found myself 3 down after the 9th - funnily enough he had only won three holes he didn't get shots on though, and halved all the shot holes.

My back nine was very much improved, steady bogeys from the 10th to 13th saw me peg him back to all square. I then hit a fantastic 7 iron to 8 feet on the par 3 14th which saw me go 1 up for the first time. However I had an absolute disaster on the 16th, all the shocking golf from the front nine returned, and we were back to all square. I got a bit of luck on the 17th as I found a bunker that was full of water, thus able to drop it on the side where the lip was a bit lower, but with my feet out of the bunker and knees bent as far as they'll go, I still played a cracking bunker shot to set up a bogey and go 1 up with one to play. Another bunker shot on the 18th - inventively using the putter as it was rock hard with no lip - got me another bogey and sealed the half for victory. My solo score of 26 points was pretty awful, but that's the beauty of match play I guess.

Course was empty so we zipped round in 3 hours and PJ graciously treated me to lunch for my win. Much better than a day in the office. 😁

You earned that lunch just for that bunker shot on 17! I thought I had halfed the hole at least before you pulled that out of the bag.

I spent more time in my car driving to and from the course than playing it 🤣 bloody traffic

Lovely course though, felt very welcome. Even without a jacket

Very average golf, hugely enjoyable round 😊. No wind, no rain, a 4 layer start reduced to 2 layers by the 9th. A mixed bag to start with, definite improvement on the back 9. I was holding my backswing a little, trying to slow my tempo. Very effective, much cleaner ball striking. Annoyingly, 2 weeks until my next round so I'll have to remember what I did when I play next, hopefully recreating it.

Finished par, par, that's what brings you back 😍

Out with Fragger late morning...we had our timings about right to make the turn before a club match went off the 10th
Sadly the 4 ball in front had other ideas so we missed the slot.
Luckily there was nobody on the 1st tee so we went round again...
1st 9 we played stableford and I too, him 17-15 I think....played OK, nothing special..
2nd time around we played matchpley....I have him a shot a hole plus another on the 4th (SI 2)
All of a sudden my game exploded into life and I was 3 up after 5 and 1 under gross.
A bogey on 6 due to bumpy greens still recovering from maintenance - 4 foot flat putting missed by a foot after a massive bobble.
2 up
Halved in nett 4s on the 7th to leave me dormy
A Fragger balls up ensued..his drive on the par 3 almost made it....to halfway where mine was sitting 10 feet from the hole.
A simple par gave me the 3&1 win and I parred the last to really hand him is rear end....
Level par for the 2nd 9, 38 points in total...
A good day at the office.

Last handicap qualifying comp of the year on a vey soggy course.
I didn't do any good and my second best score was dropping off to be replaced with my 9th best which was equal to my 8th best.
Going up from 4.3 to 4.6 for the winter. No change to 4 from yellows and 6 from whites.
White markers will be put away soon and I will be off 4 for all winter social golf.
I might be able to play to that 20% of the time. ;). Or maybe I won't.

On the bright side, when comps begin next year, I will have 7 rounds dropping off that do not have a single one in my best 8.
The only way is down for the HI at the start of the 2025 season.

Last 4BBB friendly of the season today and my first loss :( We didn't have enough players so we had to make up the numbers with a couple players from the opposition. I was paired with a scratch golfer from the other club - who ended up shooting what would have been 9 over. I was wayward off the tee, got the sh*nks for a couple of holes and after that had not much confidence over the ball. Didn't really putt well either! Lol. Ended up losing 2&1, and the club lost 3-2

On the plus side, the course has been shut the last 3 days and yet today you wouldn't have known the weather had been that bad. Greens staff done a great job

Bogey/Par Comp today, steady front 9, turned level, steady back 9, but finished 3 down🤷‍♂️
Thought I’d played well, just couldn’t buy a putt coming in.

Last qualifier of the year. 33pts on a soggy course and everyone had trouble in getting their putts to the hole. Still, 120 in the field and just 10 2s recorded and I got two of them and missed an 8ft putt for a third.

Strange round. Drove well, putted well, but a lot of poor shots in between. 3H which is normally one of my best clubs was not working, duffed it 3 or 4 times before deciding to give it the day off. Fortunately the 5H was still working. Couple of shanks with PW didn’t help.

In the circumstances 31 points was a reasonable score, but it was a very frustrating round.

Very impressive to have more birdies than pars in a round. ;)

I had more bogeys than pars yesterday, and no birdies, which is not impressive at all. :(

Out in a friendly 4 ball this morning but we all decided to put cards in.
Scores of 36, 36, 38 and 40 saw us all get a cut.
I had 36 with 2 doubles..both down to mahoosive bobbles so 38 should have been the order of the day.
Cut from 5.7 to 5.5 and a pleasant time was had by all...
Lots of laughs, especially when,,on the par 3 16th, one of the others hit straight left by about 30 yards
One of the others asked if they were playing for a big fade.....he then processed to do exactly the same thing so, of course, he was asked the same...
Love it when things like that happen.... :ROFLMAO:
