After a few weeks of shocking golf, I played really well yesterday. Shot 76 (+6, 4.0 differential) but felt I played much better, hit 13 GIR’s with only 1 really bad tee shot which cost me a triple. Best round off the tee for a while, moved the ball slightly more forward in my stance and it seemed to help.

Gone from feeling like selling my clubs on eBay to looking forward to Wednesday now. Stupid game.

a nice 7am tee time this morning to beat the heat.

-1 for the first 9 that was ruined by a 3 putt bogey on 8.

Back 9 was a case of once again putting like a prick with 4 3 putts and a disappointing 8 over for the 2nd lot

My driving was spot on today - all 4 shots were 280-290 and on the short stiff

Fingers crossed my putting is better at north foreland on Tuesday

Pals unavailable today so had a rare solo round starting at 0730.
Never done it before, but took the Bluetooth speaker and had a bit of mid-90s EDM playing softly in the background. I really enjoyed the round.
We lost a pairs matchplay knockout yesterday. If I'd played the front 9 like I did this morning we'd have won by the 12th. I've been double or tripling the first few holes recently. Today, with no witnesses, I was only 2 over gross (-5 net) after 7 holes.
As above, stupid game.
Finished by 1015. A cold drink outside the clubhouse and I was home by 11.

Captain's Day Greensomes complete...
A respectable 37 points for me and Fragger without playing particularly well.
Both hit some cracking shots and we both some stinkers
No where near the prizes but an enjoyable round..
Even more enjoyable is rather we're finished and not out in the scorchio heat anymore

Played a tie this morning and lost 3 and 2. Would have been much closer but for my short game. Threw away so many shots with thinned wedges and poor putting. Driving was quite good and off the fairway I'm getting there but I will insist on lifting my head with a wedge in my hands. Stupid game. My opponent was off 6 so always a tough one to win.

Friday morning - individual seniors open at Sutton Coldfield. Despite poor driving was on 15pts after 5 holes. Eventually though the poor driving took its toll and finished the round with 31pts. Nice heathland style course and will look forward to playing there again.

Spent a while on the range on Friday afternoon trying to sort the driving, which I put down to simply trying to hit the ball too hard.

Saturday - stableford board comp with a field of 136. The driving was much better, with just three poor swings. Was playing to handicap, until a birdie on 8 resulted in 5pts and turned with 21pts. Another birdie on 14 and some consistent golf gave another 21pts on the back nine for a 42pt total. Joint top score and I believe that I have won on a higher back nine 🙂

Handicap cut of 1.1 as a result, although that doesn’t feel enough as I was dropping a non-counting score.

A 2 over 72 in today’s stroke play. A shank cost me a shot and a poor course management decision on the 18th cost another. Overall I’ve made a huge step toward s a scratch handicap the main one being using my feet to feel the slope of the greens.

Played 72 holes for Macmillian today - 5 am till 7.30 pm - a great day out on the course, feeling a bit sore now. 3 team scrambles and 1 alternative shot. Playing-wise I was absolutely terrible the first 2 rounds then as the day went on I started to get into a rhythm and ended strong with some nice putts and a few fairway finders. had planned to go out tomorrow, but I think i might pass on it

Had a betterball match today. Despite playing very poorly yesterday and getting thrashed in the singles matchplay, I had a feeling I was going to play much better today, for some reason. I think maybe the betterball format is a nice one for taking a little bit of pressure off when you haven't been playing that well.

Usually when I have that feeling I'm wrong, but this time I was right! We were up against a 10 and a 26, my partner is similar handicap to me at 14 ish. The weather was a weird mix of incredibly hot and humid but also extremely windy. It was a great match all the way through with each time leading at different times, but ultimately we won it 1up after 18. I contributed 7 pars and was delighted to play so well, finally. My personal score would have been around 34 Stableford points, and that's with one hole not played - a couple of children playing with their dad nicked my ball! We confirmed it by asking them and got my ball back but we couldn't identify exactly where it was so that was me out of the hole. How infuriating! I'm just so glad we didn't end up losing by one as I would have been fuming. 😂

Do you use aim point formally or just get a read?

Just to get a read. I’ve found checking 2 or 3 points depending on the length of putt plenty plus getting up toward the hole gives me an idea of up or downhill too. Before I just used to look at my putts from behind the ball.
Im also using a line on the ball and combined with better information I get feedback.
It takes very little time and the difference has been amazing. I’m holing more putts which is the main thing.

Nice, Good luck. it is a very long day but it's also really fun, the first 2 rounds kind of merged into 1 as we went straight out after the first, which helped, Just take care of the necessities like water, sun lotion, some snacks, a change of shirt, and some comfy shoes, and it'll be fine. I am feeling quite stiff today, today might be a right-off as far as doing anything which involves me getting out of bed

Are you just still going on "feel" and just estimating on where to aim or are you using your fingers depending on how much you think it slopes?

I've thought about giving Aimpoint a go but to be honest I've no idea if I'm able to feel if a slope is 1% or 4%. I do know that I'm not great at reading greens from behind the ball a lot of the time after I've missed a putt if I go behind the hole I can see the line better then.

On Aimpoint - it baffles me how people expect to read a slope with your feet. If I can't see the slope with my eyes I sure as hell can't feel anything helpful with my feet. Maybe if I took my shoes off? Ha. Honestly I've tried it and I just stand there clueless.

On reading it from behind the hole/flag - I agree with you, on the rare occasions I do go around the hole and read it going back the other way, I usually find it very helpful. The problem is I basically never do it because I'm conscious of it taking too long. I never take long enough I just want to get on with it, then smash it four feet long on the low side and wish I took longer. 😟

I’m just estimating but next practice round I’ll hold up my fingers and see how it goes, judging the % of slope would be best with a digital level so you could feel exactly those 1,2,3,4 % slopes.
Judging if a put is slightly up or downhill is also a key to reducing 3 putts

I’m always conscious of speed of play myself. I can straddle my line before playing partners even get to the green 😂
When I 1st tried I couldn’t get a grasp of it either but watching two playing partners in our county comp I thought I’d have a go. Since then my worst score has been +4 gross and best -2 gross. Putting has been frustrating since I started golfing again as I have a lot of good birdie chances and not been taking advantage.

You sound exactly like me, I've tried standing on a slight slope and couldn't feel a thing, in my feet, heals, knees or hips. Was totally clueless.

I also rarely look at putts from behind the hole as I'm conscious of not wanting to play slow. I think it would definitely help if I did though.

Usually you can use the time reading a putt whilst someone is chipping on or preparing for their putt just be careful not to annoy anyone 😂. I have a routine that takes little time.
Sometimes if the pace of play in front is slow there’s no point rushing putts to then wait to tee off.
