The Duke's at Woburn. Wow, what a course!

I've walked it a couple of times but nothing compares to playing it.

I played some really solid golf, one mental mistake and one technical mistake let me down but I played to my course hanicap and shot an 18 over 90. The highlight being making birdie on the par 4 13th with a ridiculous approach shot.

Now I've played all three I can definitely say the Duke's is the best.

Decent round this evening. Rushed straight from work onto the first tee. 1 double (which included an airshot in the trees) 2 bogies, rest pars.
Drove the ball well. Hit good irons. Didn't do alot wrong. Putted OK but didn't make anything of note and couldn't buy a birdie.
Decent round for the handicap anyway.

One of those rounds where, if there was a choice of good or bad, the coin flip came down on the wrong side...
Summed up by our 4th hole..
Great drive, 9 iron in to the raised green with a step in it
If you're short, the ball rolls up to 30 yards back towards you.
1 yard of carry..that's all I needed ...1 poxy yard. But.....the ball rolled to the right on it's way down and finished in the seat rough 4 yards from the green...
Right in the middle of a deep divot....the ball was virtually below the ground...managed to get it on the green and 2 putt for a bogey but that 1 yard of extra carry would have given me a good birdie chance.
Going through the round in the bar afterwards we came up with 2 holes where no bad breaks were present.....
Just one of those bloody rounds.... :ROFLMAO::cry:

I had the biggest slice of luck having come back to level having been 4 holes down on the 18th tee I pulled my drive into the trees waited for a clunk, heard it hit but never seen it come out. Walked up and found it 4 yards out in the light rough and made birdie to win.

Played in the midweek sweep last night. Thought I played better than my score, hit some good shots and only a couple of bad ones. Driving was much improved again, feeling much more confident with that club in my hand. Still had 2 wayward drives out of 13 though, one a massive slice (just a terrible swing), had to pitch out and it cost me a shot. The other was my only pull cut of the night but unfortunately it's a tight tee shot (trees left, cabbage right probably no more than 35 yards apart) and I was aiming down the left, pulled it about 15 yards and the cut only brought it back about 5 yards and into the trees. At least you can find it in the trees, the cabbage on the right eats balls.

Also tried Aimpoint for the first time and the results were pretty promising. Think I only made 1 or maybe 2 wrong reads all night the others were really good. Think I'm going to stick with it but I need to work on 1% slopes as I still can't feel them reliably yet. My putting stats were poor last night but that was because of pace, not reads. It was raining and the greens were slower and I was just too tentative with my putts and left most short, some by a good 3 foot. Had plenty in the 3/4 foot range and ended up missing 2 of them (one pulled, the other pushed).

We had an exchange day today with Hale golf club, Hale is a very nice 9 hole course that I had played once before, although as I found out the layout has been changed. I started off wit ha nice par for 3 points but then followed it up with two 1 pointers ad 2 blobs for a greand total of 5 points after 5 holes, I did then have a couple of pars and stumbled to a first nince total of 13 points
We than has a Pimms before going round for the second time, I started again with a par for 3 points and followed it with par, birdie, birdie, par so in a complate contract this time after 5 holes I had 15 points, sadly I blobbed the next but then finished par, birdie, bogey. to score 22 points of the back nine for a respectable 35 point, but what a contract in the nines.
I had selected putting a GP score as it was played as a non q competition so will get a .5 handicap cut.

A better day at the office today...
But those pesky Golfing Gods are still extracting the pee........
A thinned chip resulted in a double on our 1st (10th) and a bogey on 11 made me think it was going to be a long day.
But I got on the par trail and managed to get it back to turn with 17 points.
On to our back 9 and, though I say it myself, a glorious birdie on the 3rd....and then the Gods had had enough.
The wind got up, it got cooler and some of the greens slowed up.
The Greenys were spraying something on the greens and it needed to be watered in for a few minutes.
If we came to a newly watered green it was about 2/3 pace leading to some putts staying short.
A couple more putts that defied gravity and I finished with 18 for 35.
Going to get such a miniscule cut that it won't even change the index but...
A better day........and the Golfing Gods can still kiss my .......

Up in the Strathmore valley for the Scottish Mixed Pairs week.
Played the Wee course at Blairgowrie this afternoon, missed the heavy rain. Level par for the back 9.
Off to Downfield tomorrow in the Panmure 2's comp and Panmure Sunday

Had the afternoon off and with a couple of hours of the little one still at nursery, me and the wife got out for nine holes. She's barely had a chance to get on the course and needed the practise before our golf trip next week. Sadly it started peeing down after a couple of holes, so with a strong wind as well it was a rather miserable nine holes.

I played off the red tees with her just for a change and because we didn't have long to get round. It didn't help much! First was a soft 9 instead of the usual 5/7 wood but I still bogeyed it. On the 3rd I went in the front bunker and took three digs to get out. 4th tee, fierce left to right wind so I carved two balls into the right bushes and gave up. Played alright after that point. On the 6th I actually got up and down out of a bunker which is a bloody miracle with how poor my bunker play has been lately.

My wife hates playing in the rain but at least she got some much needed practise in. Highlights were one bogey (on the hole I got a triple) and two doubles.

Got knocked out of the pairs yesterday. Played with my parter off 14 against a 2.9 and 9.7 handicap. Two young fellas from the club.
Been looking forward to the match as I'd never seen them play but had a bit of banter with them anytime I spoke to them at the range over winter.
My partner won the first two holes to go 2up early doors.
Low man holes a bomb bird on 4 to go to 1.
I restore the lead on 5 with a lob shot over the bunker and 4 footer. Everyone messed up the approach into the par 3 into a stiff wind.
Me and low man exchange pars 6-10.
11 he rolls in a 15 footer for bird. I roll a bird in on top of him for a half. Stay 2 up.
12 half with pars again.
13 is where the tide changed.
I missed well left on the par 3. Play a lovely bump and run to 3 feet.
There other guy is 12 feet away and my man is 10 feet. Their guy rolls it in dead center and my mans putt teeters on the edge. Rocks but doesn't drop. Back to 1.
14. I stick it to 10 foot for bird on the par 5. Their guy who's just birdied sticks it to 3 foot for bird with a shot. Back to level.
Down 15 si one. Same fella rolls in a 3rd bird on the spin from 20 feet to leave us rocked. My pars no good on any of these holes. Very little wrong and now we are down after being up all game.
I par 16 and 17 but still down on the last.
Ur man in their team sticks it to about 20 feet on the last just off the green. He two putts for the win.
Probably the best I've played off our back sticks in the pissing rain and wind. Only dropping 4 shots with 1 bird and it wasn't enough. Epic game. They hung on when 2 down for so long then stood up and took the win. Got to hand it to them. They came good when it mattered but boy did that sting a bit. Haha

Had Adesko over with his two mates to play Nairn today. A few heavy showers and a stiff breeze made the going tough ish, but enjoyable none the less. My only game this week, but hit it ok considering I'd not touched a club all week. A convincing win for Duncan and I against Adam and Steve.. I'll spare the poor boy the embarrassment of the number they lost by🤣

Played my first ever club match for Leighton Buzzard today, away at South Beds GC and my first time playing the course.

They were 9 and 21 hcps, I was off 16 and my partner off 18.

We played solidly from the off and were quickly in the lead. 4 up at the turn. They won the 10th and we halved every hole after that, finishing the match 3&2 on 16th.

Really liked the course and the guy's we played were great company too. The overall result was a draw.

My run of good golf continues and I won a bottle of wine bagging a nearest the pin as well.
