Another disastrous round in today's medal.

Started bogey, par, birdie and was hopeful of playing reasonable golf for a change, slowly but surely however, it all began to go wrong.

Some missed putts, poor driving, lost balls, bad iron play (with the obligatory shank) and I scored 44 out 62 back for 106.
Say it quickly and it still sounds :poop:

Score differential - handicap index = 25.1-12.1 = 13
So I guess you could say I was 13 over handicap.

My handicap is going to go up very quickly by a large amount soon, which is where I think the WHS falls down very badly.
I shouldn't be rewarded for 4 or 5 months of crap play by having a big rise in handicap and then being able to clean up when my game finally returns.
Some Callaway game improvement irons might help you get your game back.

Highly enjoyable trip yesterday to Cuddington with @Imurg to meet up with @blueinmunich (yes he’s still alive) and @chrisd (yes he’s still alive too) 😎

Me n Chris took on the low cappers and only lost 4 & 2.

Chris gave me an infraction for swearing on the 12th, 🙄 but not in the same league as @Bratty

Some good golf, some atrocious golf, but what a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Hope Rich is keeping well. The forum misses him.

Had a cracking time with @Aztecs27 @richart and @Swinger at Blackmoor (thanks to Jon for the invite and Rich for being an amazing host as always.
Breakfast bacon bap and a coffee to start proceedings was great and very welcome.
Jon and I were paired to take on Rich and Steve, which was a relief for Rich, as he's seen the state of my game before!
Teed off and 3 of the 4 of us found the fairway (and one of those was me amazingly!), and then I found the green and two-putted for a par. Rich sady parred it too, so hole halved.
On the fourth, I managed to get my tee shot through the tree on the left, but left it in the heather. Thankfully, it was a scorched bit, so pretty flat and scrubby lie, 225 yards from the green. Pulled the 3 wood out of the bag (mainly because Jon was other side of the hole, too far away to tell me to stop being silly!) and proceeded to hit a beauty to 8 foot! Lagged the putt, but had 3 for the hole, so I like to think I'd have made it if I'd had to.
Halfway house and a wonderful sausage roll (Greggs? Pah!) and drink, courtesy of Rich (thanks again) and we continued. I layed up on the par 3 12th (unintentionally!) but Jon had already hit a beaut to 5 foot and holed the downhiller for a great birdie.
Started 13th dry and then it rained rather heavily for the entire hole. I was the only one with an umbrella (and only one of two with a bag hood!), so all of a sudden became rather popular. Eased off a little for putting and then bucketed down on 14th and 15th. Then stopped and was lovely for the last three holes.
Jon and I were 1 up standing on 17th tee and I hit a great shot to middle left of green. Jon in a bunker, Steve in a bunker, Rich steps up and bounces one OVER the bunker just short the green! Bounced it over the bunker!
He putted to about 3 foot, I putted to a foot and then picked up his marker for the half.
18th hole and I was the only one to find the fairway. Having hit that 3wood so well earlier, I was a little unsure about the hybrid going as well, buy hit and and my God, did it go! Slightly low flight but hit the left side of the green and rolled round to the hole, finishing 4 or 5 foot from the hole. And yes, I missed the putt! But again, had 2 for the win and the match, and made my par! So that was nice.
Great day out, despite the wet.
If you've never played Blackmoor, go play it!

Played in a senior ladies event at Ashton & Lea today, we got very lucky with the weather and played mostly in sunshine.
I have only played there once before and didnt really remember much of the course, we all contributed well to our score and although we could match our first nine score of 45 points, we did enough to secure 2nd place, I did enjoy the course particularly the front nine which had a bit more variety than the back nine

Great day all round. Always eventful playing with Rich for some reason and this time was no exception....couple of high/lowlights from the day;

- teasing the hazard on the 1st, just stayed outside the stake - which I carefully removed and stood on the bridge, with the ball well below my feet, managed to find the green (and proceed to 3 putt from about 600ft)
- Absolutely striped my tee shot on the 3rd and dialled in my second looking like it would be my 1st birdie shout of the day...only for the ball to trickle off the back into the bunker. FFS. first of about 16 absolutely brutal pin positions of the day. Rich had obviously had a word!
- Thank christ for Bratty's heroics on the 4th to take us 3 up, as not only did I top one into the heather by the senior tees, but I sent my 3rd way right into the wilderness and took the blob...To add insult to injury, the strap on my bag snapped straight off...Managed to fashion some carabena clips together and loop through the material to see me round the rest of the way, but my shoulder is definitely sore today!
- Great drive on the 5th and a not-so-bad-2nd, but left me with a terrifying chip with nothing to work with - salvaged a bogey.
- I've played Blackmoor probably 6-8 times now and not once have I hit the GIR on the Par3 6th...I'm pleased to report that streak is very much still alive.
- Another hole another brutal pin placement on 7...and another bogey 😆
- Blocked myself out with my drive down the right at the 8th, overcooked my pitch out and blocked myself out behind a huge tree on the other side of the fairway :ROFLMAO: Took my lumps and chipped it out sideways, leaving 70 yards or so to the green....somehow found some magic with my wedge and stiffed it to 2 feet for the guaranteed bogey (which halved us the hole after Bratty got himself in all kinds of mess with his 2nd!)
- Blackmoor's par 3's have traditionally not been good for me, but aside from the menace of the 6th, I actually started to play them ok. Baby 7 iron on the 9th to within 10-15ft - of course the pin wasn't in the nicest of places...so I 3 putted for the Birdogey 😒
- The less said about the 10th the better (although the drive was good).
- Thunderblasted a lovely looking drive on 11th but didn't leak right like I'd hoped so ended up in the narrow ditch running down the left side of the hole. Chipped it out and gained a yard, made the green in 4 and somehow 2 putted on the world's quickest green.
- Highlight of the day was the (usually poor) Par3 12th. Still no clue how this is SI 18, given the green. Yet another tasty pin placement, but doesn't matter when you stiff it to 6ft and roll it down the hill for a birdie. 😎
- Was obviously feeling the flow as I absolutely crushed a drive into the wind, down the middle of the fairway on the Par5 13th. Knew I wasn't going to make it in 2 with the wind in our face, so pulled out my hybrid, that I'd been hitting well all day and proceeded to slice it right to lay it up on the 7th Teebox. With the rain now coming down quite hard, I rushed my pitch, did some gardening and didn't manage to quite make it off the tee box fully. Found the top shelf with my 4th and 2 putted for bogey but should have done much better after the drive.
- The par3 15th was, as always, an absolute joke of a hole. Surprised I managed a bogey if I'm honest.
- Pushed my tee shot right into the rough on the 16th and completely blocked myself out. Had a nice lie but pitched out and ended up in the rough on the other side of the fairway (again!). Pitched it pin high but on the left edge and casually rolled in a 30-40ft putt for the easy par to secure the half and stay 1 up, much to Steve and Rich's dismay. (Good job too after Bratty had spent the whole faffing about in the heather).
- Was due a thinned bunker shot, and shocked it took 17 holes. Thinned right out of the front bunker, over the green into one of the bunkers on 10. Not to be outdone, Steve followed suit, making sure the other bunker on 10 got some attention as well. We left Rich and Bratty to duel it out for a half after they both escaped trouble with their tee shot (was Rich's 1000th(ish) member's bounce of the round).
- Finishing on a low note by duffing my drive into the heather below the tee on 18. Hitting my 2nd deeper into the gorse and somehow getting it out with my 3rd - only to find the heather up the left with my 4th and picking up, knowing Simon would finish the job (and that he did!). Hit one from the 190 yard sprinkler head in the fairway, just to finish up the hole - pulled out my hybrid and hit an almost identical shot to the 200 yard hole out at HFH a few years ago...only this time finishing 4ft from the hole - shame it didn't count for anything.

That summary was longer than I expected and probably rather dull, so apologies - but I'm not deleting it now I've wasted the time typing it out! Pleased with my play overall. Only the 2nd time I've been out this year, so can't expect consistency, but hit enough decent shots.

Great day all round, as per usual - even with BagGATE and the torrential rain around 14 and 15. Don't think I'll ever tire of playing there and as Rich said after the round I'd rather drive 2 hours to play with mates than 10 minutes to play with knobs...was just a shame that it was a 4 hour round trip to play with knobs yesterday! But the course more than makes up for it.

Just a little jaunt around the local Par 3 course (Cocken Lodge) for me today but I put a couple of things in place that worked a treat. I've tormented myself on Par 3s previously, tee shots all over the shop - today I tee'd off without using a tee (huge improvement, nearly all greens hit) and placed my ball on the green with the maker's name at the back. Looking at the back of the ball as you putt is something of a revelation and every putt of any length either went in or was less than 2 feet away. Possibly the breakthrough I've needed to get into single figures.

Big seniors comp today. Played good solid golf. 21 points on the front 9. Bit of a wobble for a couple of holes coming back, but turned it round and finished well for 36 points.

More importantly, it was my best score since last October, feel as if I’ve turned a bit of a corner after a horrendous winter / spring.

Oh yeah, had a nice 2 as well 😀

-1 gross through 8 holes, +6 overall after 18..

Couple of bad swings cost me.

New putter went well through the front 9, but couple of 3 stabs on the back 9 and a few I should've holed for birdie.

Played with a couple of members and another buddy at Sherwood Forest today. Guest rate was £30!!! Best money I'll pay this year.

What a smashing course. Heather, trees, sweeping dog legs, wonderful greens... my mate and I won on 17th too.

Holinwell tomorrow. Interesting to compare.

I had a very enjoyable round today at Dewsbury golf club in a team open, I have never played there before and it is an interesting course that works its way up hill plays a couple of holes on the top and then plunges back down in one hole, the holes are very different and the greens were deadly, very slopey with some devilish pin positions, we felt we played pretty well manageing to average practically 4 points a hole, it was 2 to count on each hole, and thought that the winning score would be high 70s, we were rather shocked to find out that the winners had 90 points, quite amazing on a challenging course. We did enjoy it though and it was only £15 each so quite a bargain.

Reading that seemed to take longer than the round !

Good to catch up again and always a pleasure to play with you Jon. Did I mention you get a free drop from the bridge on the 1st ?

Assume you don't want another game though after the knob remark ?

Good to play with Simon again despite his swearing. Steve is still in shock having played with me twice in four days.

Hopefully we can sort out another game together. My diary is fairly free in 2030.;)

Midweek medal and Choo Choo...Imurg was on the bogey train from the off.
7 of the buggers on the front 9 with just 2 pars
Onto the back 9 and another 5 boogers, another couple of pars and a couple of birdies left me a respectable nett 72 on a par and CR of 71.
Had 3 very downhill putts stop an inch short when you'd think it impossible to be short....
Bit breezy, bit rainy, bit sunny....but leader in the clubhouse

Similar story for me today in our mid-week medal. But even more extreme.
Wind and rain front nine. Two pars, 5 bogeys and two doubles for 9-over.
Dry but still windy back nine. Five pars, two bogeys and two birdies for level-par. Got on a par five in two down wind for an easy birdie. The old 16° hybrid working well.
STUPID GAME!!!
Lying 9th out of 21 finishers so far.

EDIT: Finished 16th out of 47.

Front nine - Abysmal (n)
Back nine - Very good (y)

I grew up next to that golf course and my dad used to be a member there so I’ve played there a few times, sadly not for a while though. Some steep hills to walk up that’s for sure. Some great driving holes.

fabulous isn't it, right from driving through the trees and seeing it laid out in front of you, totally unexpected. I played there last month and I would say it is probably my favourite inland course that I have played.

Right up there with the Surrey Ws etc.... so friendly.

Had a chat with Des Walker in the Pro Shop too.
